This joint was highly recommended by one of my friend in JB. So, I decided to drop by this corner lot restaurant somewhere near the JB City Square. It was about 7pm on a Friday, so there was plenty of space available. You can sit in the indoor air-conditioned area or the outdoor open area here. The ambiance is really good, potrays the olden Western diner concept. It was not hot at all, the air-conditioning was excellent. Staff were quick, prompt and attentive. Service was excellent, the food came in no time (about 7 minutes after ordering). The chicken chop was perfectly fried, not too dry. But the small issue I had was there were small bones and I had to weed them out. The homemade mushroom sauce compliments well with the chicken. Coleslaw hits the spot as well, but the wedges was dry and hard. Probably need to improve on the wedges. The fried rice was decent, but the RM8 price tag is really expensive. The drinks as well can be cheaper. Pricing overall is a bit steeper, but the food quality was good enough to earn those price tags. Drinks probably not worth the price. Parking can be a challenge here.

Being a first timer visiting JB, we were attracted by the cafe's bold statement claiming to serve the "Best Chicken Chops In Town" - Well I can say this is a BRILLIANT marketing/advertising pull as we were intrigued to try it out. The restaurant has a nice feel to it, if you get a table in doors. The restaurant was packed when we arrived and we found our own table outdoors. Apart from the much anticipated Chicken Chops (either grilled or fried) they also have other options like noodles, fried rice etc. But of course we went for the Chic Chops. Service of the food was quick despite the big crowd, and the presentation of the chicken was good. The chicken did taste good, but I guess it was missing a small ingredient, that could have made it live up to it's claims. What was the missing ingredient? Warmth and friendliness from the staff - There was not a single smile around and all the staff seemed to engrossed with fast service to care about the customers. Personally - IT ROO has the potential and the flavor - but I guess its too stressful being the BEST IN TOWN.

I was a bit underwhelmed by my experience here. The chicken chop had no flavor. It tasted like fried chicken without any seasonings. My chicken also had a few cartilages. The mushroom sauce was bland. Maybe it’s healthy, so they left out salt and other seasonings. The potato wedges accompanying the dish were not crispy. The salad was basically coleslaw and it was just ok. The lychee drink was watered down though I liked it came with actually lychees. I don’t know if they were canned or fresh but at least there were whole lychees. Service was better than your average Malaysian place but still not noteworthy. There’s al fresco dining available though restaurant is located at corner of busy intersection so have to deal with lots of foot traffic but area is fenced off. With more seasoning and a little attention to detail like crisping up the wedges, this place can have huge potential. 6% service added onto bill.

First time trying this place on a weekday lunch time. It is crowded. I managed to get the last available seat before the crowd build at the peak. Parking is a challenge at this place. The place is setup is definitely old coffeeshop feel. Good and prompt customer service. Ordered 3 chicken chops + 2 drinks. The portion is good. And taste…. One of the best i have ever tried. Chop size decent with generous service of sauce with mushroom topping. I like the coleslaw and potato wedges as sides. U taste the potato wedges as chunk rather than fries which is how i like. When added with some chili sauce, the plate easily become messy but thats how i like it! I strongly recommend the Grilled chicken chop with mushroom sauce with 2 eggs. Feel so satisfying! Only small downside is the Bandung soda, the residue is not appealing. See pic. I strongly recommend this place for chicken chop lover!

I was really looking forward to having the famous chicken chop when I visited IT Roo again since post pandemic. However, my enthusiasm was doused when we were greeted with a very unfriendly server. Either he got off the wrong side of the bed or he was just plain rude, I've no idea. But to brush us off when we wanted to order and to return to us after signaling to him a few times, the vibes he gives us is " I dont really need your business." Putting that aside, we still look forward to the chicken chop. It came and we tucked straight into it. I must say, the food still stay true to the taste we had many years back. But, to enjoy the food, the ambience and the service experience of the whole cafe or restaurant is as important to me as the quality of the food itself. Hence, this will be my last time visiting this cafe. It's a "will not recommend" for me. Cheers.

Awarded the “Best Chicken Chop in Malaysia” title by The Star newspaper in 2003. After recent visit about a month ago, I can still proud to say It Roo Cafe still have the best chicken chop in Malaysia. I ordered the Fried Chicken Chop, with a thick beautiful mushroom sauce. When you slice it open, what you get is the white and tender meat which goes very well with the chilli sauce as well. Surprisingly it’s not very oily. The chicken chop is paired with coleslaw and potato wedges. The potato wedges are cut from fresh potatoes and not the processed foods sold in markets. It is healthier and allow us to taste the original taste of potatoes. Thumbs up!! Finish with a classic root beer with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Match made in heaven.
