I visited Al Kasaba in Chefchaouen, Morocco, today. The entry fee is MAD 60 per adult, which I found to be quite steep. This site primarily appeals to those with a deep interest in history, as it encompasses a rich cultural heritage. Dating back to the 15th century, the Kasbah was initially erected in 1471 to defend the city against Portuguese invasions. Over the years, it has served as a governor’s residence, a military arsenal, and a prison. Today, it houses an ethnographic museum that exhibits a range of Moroccan artifacts, including traditional musical instruments, pottery, and weapons. This place is a must-visit for history enthusiasts, offering a profound glimpse into Morocco’s storied past.

This Kasbah was the first step towards founding the city of Chefchaouen, and Ali bin Rashid took it as his headquarters, in addition to being a military fortress to repel the attacks of the Portuguese. architecturally; The Kasbah of Chefchaouen is surrounded by a wall in the middle of ten towers, built in the Andalusian style, and an inner courtyard consisting of a large garden with two basins. The ethnographic museum is located in the northwestern section of the Kasbah, and it is designed in the style of traditional Moroccan houses, as it provides an open inner courtyard, and there is a water fountain in the middle. Surrounded by ground floor rooms.

Absolutely stunning beauty. When we reached outside the city we were disappointed to see no blue city. Merely few buildings that were painted blue. Then we parked our cars and started walking towards walled city (Kasbah). We were shocked to see the real blue city that is hidden inside the walled city. It looks stunning and natural. When you start walking it's like a maze, so many streets and staircase leading to same spots. Kasbah is very clean and there are plenty of food places in the centre of Kasbah. People are very friendly and respectful towards tourist. I suggest you park car on the main road and walk to the Kasbah.

The garden and the castle are very beautiful and you have a great few from the tower. The groundskeepers/gardeners were really friendly and also offered to take pictures for you. The gate keeper on the other hand was really grumpy - it was stated on the price sheet that there is a discount for disabled persons, I am and also showed him my offical certificate/card .. he kept saying no and charged the full amount - if we didn’t really want to go there we would have turned around due to that unfriendly cashier … we were in Morocco for a while and everyone was friendly and helpful till we met him ..

One of the most interesting place in Morroco. Visiting Chefchaoene and mountain vilages nearby, you will reach the native life and culture of mountain side of the country. In front of main square is located the "Kasbah"- old fortress. A lot of restaurants with good food, but drink only botteled water, siders, etc.Prices are lower than bigger cities of Fes, Marrakech, Casablanca and Tanger. Cars are not allowed in the town. Toilets are actually bad, we found only one near Kasbah But all shades of blue everywhere, makes the place irresistibly magical!

Small kasbab located just off the main square. Climb the tour for great views of the city and environs. The garden in the kasbah is also quite lovely. There is a small exhibit located in the kasbah as well, highlighting aspects of the regions history, main industries, and crafts - with a particular focus in artisinal work that went into decorating many of the buildings and homes. A visit should take less than 30 minutes.
