Staff needs more customer service training maybe. I have been in the customer service field for nearly a decade and I am well trained about how to treat customers well, because they are the ones paying our wages through the sales/revenue. On 31 January between 4pm to 5pm i went to the Countdown at 652 Great South Road, Manukau City Centre and there was a long queue at the self service checkout and there was a lady staff directing the customers towards counters as it got available. As my turn came, my necklace got tangled on one of the tags of my purchasing items and i was trying to untabgle it and didnt see that a counter got free. The lady staff questioned a ''hello?'' to me, but in a very rude and condescending tone. She was standing right infront of me so it would have have been hard for her not to see that i was trying to sort out something. After the way unfriendly tone she used with me i pulled my tangled necklance and it fell down with my 2 pendants rolling down on the fall. But what further upset me about this staff's attitude was that she was so friendly towards the next person after me and actually called her "dear" while directing her to the next available counter. And thats when i turned to her and questioned about the difference in the tone and treatment to me in comparison. She chose not to respond to me and started talking about me to another customer. She never even apologised or make any response. I think it was unfair treatment and as a frontline customer service staff, she needs to treat all customers the same as we all add to the revenue. I am a regular countdown shopper in Christchurch since last 6 years and this is the first time i encountered such a rude, unsmiling and biased staff. I am a visitor to Auckland from Christchurch. I come from a customer service background and i know how important it is to treat all the customer's in a friendly and helpful manner and that is why this particular encounter got to me...

This supermarket, my favourite, never let me down. Always clean, well lit, great specials, safe carparking, helpful and polite staff .. thank you Countdown / Woolworths.
20Jul19 2135 Nearly three years since my last review/update. Still my favourite because of the well lit basement car parking and good groceries' selection. Right now it's 9:35pm on a Saturday and it is nice to drive into a sheltered, safe, basement carpark ... out of the winter rain and low temperatures outside.
23Oct16 My favourite Countdown supermarket in New Zealand Heaps of safe, clean, basement carparking and fast service at checkouts. Definitely 4 star but never will be a five star store until it sells real Vogel's fruit loaves that are not gluten free. I knew Hans Klisser, the Vogel Founder, deceased, and he would still be making real fruit loaves! The other whinge is Diet Sprite. There is never much, of any, of it.
Anyway lots of self help checkouts with attentive till supervisors standing nearby to help self help customers. Well presented vegetables and fruit section. Alcohol section has anything a Kiwi needs although the prices are not usually rock bottom. Big chiller has more beer than you can take home in a truck. Meat, fish, milk, bread, tinned food, nappies, fly spray, aspirin, potato chips, over the counter medicines and generics (must make business hard for the pharmacy across the far side), ice cream, toilet paper, ice for those drinks at...
Read moreToday around 3:35 I visited this store. Went to deli section and ask for chicken luncheon. The girl who was sweeping the floor on deli section came to serve me, without washing her hands. Put the plastic sleeve which my luncheon will be packed in. I asked her won't you be washing your hands before serving customers food coz you were just sweeping the and didn't washed your hands. She told me that's fine I'm wearing this plastic sleeve. I told her please wash your hands before you serve my food. Just told at home about this incident, my family members told me that the normal practice, as that we all face all the times. This brings to the attention of health and safety which isn't carried out by Countdown and staff hasn't been trained up food safety and health assessment. Every hospitality industry which ds with food, does thus where as Countdown supermarket Manukau has failed in this category. As I saw this store is not responding to any reviews and I'm sure it wont be carried out this one aswell. But I do encourage people who reading this be aware of this. HYGIENE...
