Paleta Gelateria — Attraction in Christchurch

Absolutely not gluten free friendly!!!

I was there about 6:30pm, Sunday 15 June 25, with my daughter who suffers from celiac disease. We asked for a scoop of Gelato from a fresh area in the Gelato tub, with a clean scoop. This is to avoid/reduce cross contamination risk. The server looked at us directly and said that she would not do that for us. She would only serve us if she scooped from the part of the tub where there was potential cross contamination, which meant my girl couldn't have any... Of course this ruined by 12yo's night, as it was hard not to take it personally. All the other kids around were getting Gelato, but she couldn't because the server refused to scoop her Gelato from a different part of the tub.

Honestly, I this this was absolutely ridiculous. My girl was so upset and was crying so much that we had to leave.... Of course we went to Rollickin Gelato, which is close by, who go above and beyond for those with food allergies/intolerances.

Please think twice before going to Paleta Gelateria. It's a place that has been very cruel to a little 12 year old girl that suffers from an Autoimmune...

I was so excited when I saw this place my wife offered to treat me. I saw one of the girls making a shake, so I checked it out on the menu.

I asked for the Hojicha flavor.

To my disappointment, I was told that I could only pick from 4 flavors when it clearly says on the menu. " Pick a gelato flavor from our selection."

I asked the girl for a reason as to why, but this is something they were told by the manager. So it's of no fault of hers.

That manager clearly needs to read what they clearly have written on the menu. It's incredibly disappointing as a customer when you have a situation like this and it is generally a poor business practice.

I didn't end up getting the gelato I was so excited about as there would be no gelato sweet enough to get the taste of disappointment out of my mouth.

I strongly suggest changing your menu to reflect the poor selection we actually have to avoid further...

TO THE OWNER PLEASE READ: Even if I get a million dollar to choose something else instead of Paleta Bar. I will never do that. This is only and only because of your staff HAZEL. I saw her dealing with multiple customer and she was all by herself yet you could not see the stress on her face. This whole time she had a vibrant smile on her face that can light up an entire room. She was treating every customer including myself with so much happiness and respect. The best compliment I could give was I was so amazed with her service that I asked her "Do you own this place". Hazel is a gem and you should be proud of her. Please ensure she is recognised for her diligent work. She is great in making mouthwatering and finger...
