Ice Cream Charlie — Restaurant in Christchurch

This ice cream shop has a wonderful history but if you are looking for creamy, thick ice cream with thick sauces, I would suggest you go elsewhere (Ben & Jerry's, Rollickin, etc.).

We tried this shop for the first time and the ice cream is more comparable to a cream-based shaved ice. The raspberry sauce was very runny. We were offered "cream" on our sundae, which I assumed was whipped cream, but was actually a liquid sweet cream. Made the whole sundae soupy.

We were pleased that they offer free kiddie cones though! I assume you need to purchase an adult size to get the free kiddie...

Went there today and I have to say I wasn’t happy with how my experience went as the new management has taken over they have changed the prices of the the cups and have taken away the median size and now made the size small sundae $5 when a large sundae use to be $5 now $7 I would have to say that this is a rip off as they have also made the serving size of the ice cream very little amount and hardly any Rasberry sauce. We finally made it after a couple years of chasing down Icecream Charlie when visiting from Oz. So excited to get our hands on that delicious combination of icecream, cream, raspberry sauce & nuts! Our international bank cards wouldn't work in the eftpos, so Mrs Icecream Charlie gave us some directions for the closest ATM and with a quick round #2, we eagerly parted our cash and enjoyed our treats by the river....
