Amazing dinner here last night! Definitely recommend and I'll be back for sure (live far-ish but its worth it) I paid $50 but only because I got two meals haha theres no mexican places where I live so I wasnt going to waste this delicious opportunity. If I got 1 meal it would be about $25-35.
Beef tacos were really delicious. They're were packed full and lots of flavour. I got medium 'borderline' spice and it wasnt over-powering, super yum - but you need to love spicy if youre going to get that level lol.
Staff recommended the chicken quesadilla and it was really great too. I would have like a bit more cheese as it didnt seem like much but thats just me.
The guacamole unfortunately wasn't fresh and definitely came from a packet but I get it, it's kind of hard to keep those fresh for more than half a day. It wasn't bad, it was okay and just unfortunate.
The older gentleman (owner I assume) was super friendly! Helped me since it was my first time and the customer service was really great from him and a younger guy. The owner was talking to the younger guy about doing things right when they were making the food together which was nice to hear.
This place is in Willis Lane so there was a lot of noise but not at this place since its at the far end. The area was really clean (compared to other places). I honestly think it deserves to be one of the first places you see going into the activity centre.
I didn't have to wait long to get my food (less than 5 mins - maybe a bit too quick?) since there was no line but I think I just got in at a good time because after I got mine, a lot more people arrived, made a queue...
Read moreI've had some great fish tacos in Australia and NZ, and a lot of pretty good fusion tacos (think Korean chicken with an avocado crema sauce, or prawn tacos in a gochujang barbacoa-esque sauce, or a trendy boutique place that also somehow fries cheese to the outside of an otherwise unremarkable standard taco, etc.) Funky, occasionally interesting... But I still hadn't found something I'd really label a great (or even good) taco since moving to the Southern Hemisphere.
Hot Like a Mexican hit every note of "great taco" and I hadn't realized how much I'd missed having such amazing Mexican-style tacos and authentic hot sauces in a nearby restaurant. This place was note-for-note perfect in the dishes we tried -- beef tacos with the Hot Like a Mexican sauce, and a pork burrito with the same were delicious. We also ordered the beef tacos with "Mild Like a Kiwi" sauce for our kiddo, which received two thumbs up (which from a four year old is high praise.)
I'd joked to my husband that it's good we didn't find this place on our first day on holiday, or it would have been a struggle to convince ourselves to eat elsewhere....
Read moreOkay you find yourself lost in the city and you are craving Mexican. Well look no further, and I mean that, then Hot Like a Mexican. I mean as authentic Mexican goes you'll find it here. First the main guy greeted us with a smile and spoke IN SPANISH!! Hola? Hola (we said), Como esta? Bien. I mean muy bien. AMAZING. He kindly answered our questions and we ordered. Chicken nachos for the wife and a chicken quesadilla for me. Food came out hot and excellent. We chatted a bit later and it was a great experience. Seating a bit tough since it's located in an underground eatery but TRUST ME when I tell you and we have tried our fair share of Mexican here in NZ....YOU WILL NOT be disappointed. Did I mention they make their own tortillas and chips.🤯 We will return for sure. Muchas Gracias!! Adios amigos!
Did I mention he also sells these awesome hats that you should purchase and send to your friends and family in the states. They could change the US, maybe the...
