Not only have I visited the Begonia House several times but I have studied upon the Begonia House's history and its site. The Begonia House in the Botanical Gardens of Wellington New Zealand, has remarkable features on both middle and end of its long structure that extends towards its audience, the Rose Garden and Anderson Park.
The generosity of the Norwood Family made the conservatory what it is today- because of this, the Wellington City Council name the Garden for Rosina Norwood. The Rose Garden is now call the Lady Norwood Rose Garden. This site is a fantastic place to bring your children to play in the safe environment, to read a book, to reminisce in the sunshine, to view upon the roses and plants, to have a quiet tea of coffee at the Cafe on the east wing of the Begonia House, to view the Lily Pond on the west wing of the Begonia House, to view upon the many ducks and ducklings located at the Peace Flame to the east of the Rose Garden, or to just escape the city life.
I really enjoyed the Begonia House overall, one of my most memorable moment was when I was sitting in the Foyer. I looked out to the Rose Garden and notice the sun shining through the windows, this generated a arc of bedding rectangle-sunlight onto the Foyer's circular ground with air-plants floating from the cone-like...
Read moreThis free entry public garden inside an enclosed hot house is a wonderous place. It has mostly exotic plants. Many flowing from the high ceiling. The displays change occasionally. You can expect to see lots of colors and contrast with many photo opportunities. It is bright & airy but does get hot on hot days. It is flat and easy to navigate even for pushchairs or wheelchair, although paths are narrow. There are toilets. It has two sides to it and a tiny gift place. On the west side is a raised artificial pond with tropical fish & water Lily. The other side has a small wishing fountain. Young children will enjoy this but need to be supervised so they don't damage plants. Around June there is an amazing sculpture that can (by professionals) play ambient music. Google Lomis festival for information. It would be a lovely place to have a tour through before or after a lunchtime picnic in the outdoor gardens surrounding. Allow 20 minutes at least to truly enjoy the place in here. Be warned it has short hours and closes somewhat early in the afternoon. You cannot bring food or drink into the building, nor animal's. There is a typically expensive cafe next to it. You can purchase just a coffee or packaged icecream...
Read moreThe wander around the glass house full of fabulous plants was a pleasant experience. More so for those botanically inclined. The hospitality was my focus. We were faced with a dilemma rating the cafe. No pay wave! If it was not for my companion picking up the tab we would have had to walk. We ordered and paid using old tech. The drinks and food were delivered quickly. Points had to come off because my long black had almost no crema. For the price the look should be as good as the taste. The Professor, always fussy had no complaints about her cappuccino. Just about perfect combo of espresso, milk and froth topped off with the right amount of chocolate. The score was four stars untill we experienced excellence. We were asked if we would like some water while the plates were being collected. What a surprise. The filteted water and glasses arrived moments later and we did enjoyed the drink. After some discussion the point off for the substandard look of the long black was returned due to the...
