The Soundshell is a small to medium-sized, natural "amphitheater" where outdoor concerts are staged with great success to a medium-sized audience in good weather. And indeed this summer it has been packed full by appreciative audiences out to make the most of the fine weather and to enjoy the free concerts so kindly organised by the Wellington City Council.
If you need a bus ride, catch the #2 Karori bus and get off at the 2nd stop along Glenmore Street, this will take you right to the doorstep of the theater which is located right next to the Lady Norwood Rose Garden, which in turn is part of the greater, Wellington Botanical Gardens. Remember to bring a rug or cushion to sit on.
If you need a hot drink there is a coffee kiosk close by. Bring the whole family along, some drinks and a picnic tea (dinner) if you wish and enjoy the night show which usually lasts until 9.30 pm.
If you are a public transport user be aware that the last buses to most suburbs will have departed for the night. You may wish to opt for the train instead or else leave the concert earlier.

We went for the music in the gardens, and unfortunately we went on a night where the line up just wasn't our thing, definitely pays to check ahead!
It was pretty dang busy, so if you have a family and want a nice spot on the flat you need to show up earlier than we did, which was around 6.30 (the show kicked off at 7).
It was a magical night none the lesa, and we are hoping to catch a show more in line...
