Summary. Cute, fun, and informative stop good for kids and lovers of fairy tales. You need approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour for all of the museum. Detail My wife and I were on a vacation in Tromso Norway and came across this charming museum. She is a lover of fairy tales and mythology, so this place was a perfect match. We arrived close to closing time, but the staff wanted to make sure we got to enjoy everything and did not have to rush. With enthusiasm, they explained to us all the details about the legends and answered our questions. I particularly enjoyed the segment on the music inspired by the stories. There was also a small game room where we enjoyed a wooden rune game. Know before you go- American payment cards can be problematic. I recommend taking cash. The staff is working on adding a PayPal option but not there yet Also, the museum is on the 3rd floor with an elevator or stairs to get up. 5 out of 5 stars

This was a great little find for our family to visit while in Tromso. Others have commented that it is small, and yes it is compared to other museums, BUT the attention to detail in the exhibits was amazing! It was a great way for not only my husband and I, but our 3yo to learn about the culture, tradition and stories behind the trolls. The use of the AR was a great way for our daughter to visualise some of the exhibits in a way that was fun for her. There is plenty of information to read, fun to be had and enjoyed by all and the fact that they have made it suitable to all ages with the inclusion of the playroom as well. We would 100% recommend a visit to anyone as something a bit different to do from your normal museum type sightseeing. The staff were also super lovely and welcoming, especially to our daughter, who at the end wanted to gift them with a coloured in drawing she did while there.

This is a wonderful little museum, which is absolutely not just for children, but for all lovers of folklore. The AR is more of a gimmick then an integral part of the experience, but still fun to see. It also has a tiny coffee machine and reading room with comfy chairs, which was a great place to chill whilst waiting for that late night flight home! It is quite small, but if you take the time to read and listen to everything it will take an hour or two. I loved the Peer Gynt section, and also the Mara; who we still find today in the word Nightmare! It would be lovely to see them expand to bigger premises, which will enable them to be able to offer a deeper dive into the wonderful world of Norse mythology.

Honestly thought this was going to be lowest ranking of the museums we were planning on doing with the augmented reality. But it was one of the best museums !!! They have so much information about the Norwegian fairy tales and how they tie in with the trolls. Everything is laid out very well and the augmented reality bits really do add to it , but not completely dependent on it . They have a variety of 3d models and figures that are nicely done as well. And I would highly recommend doing the scavenger hunt sheet, I feel like it added so much to the visit to fully read everything and make sure we had the right answers and then you even get a free gift if you get them all right!!

Definitely worth a visit if you enjoy mythology or learning more about Norwegian culture. The museum is small but full of stories, displays, and some augmented reality exhibits. An hour is probably enough time. There are traditional games to play as well as a reading room with relevant books (most in Norwegian) but some in English and other languages. Coloring activities are available for children and adults. Signs are in Norwegian and English with other languages available via their electronic guide (free WiFi to access other language translations). A free WC is available plus a coat room for winter gear.

A great museum with interesting and modern installations. It is small, so you can manage to explore everything in 2 hours, although the amount of exhibits is pretty big. Stories from books, photo zones, thematic music and augmented reality(!) - these things are there in addition to pictures and some sculptures. I would say a little bit of everything, and that makes the place worth visiting. In addition, there are a small library with stories about trolls in different languages and a separate room with games where children can play (and adults).
