Art Café Bistro — Restaurant in Tromsø

• whilst the establishment says they cannot take my review seriously as I didn’t eat there please see the What’s App messages screenshots of the whole experience, if they weren’t rude and didn’t yell me out of the restaurant why would you offer a free meal and bottle of wine - at no point was I rude or deserved to be treated the way I was - I don’t care how “busy” you are there is no excuse for this type of behaviour, also at no point whatsoever did you tell me to call to secure a reservation*

If I could leave NEGATIVE stars I would. These people are THE RUDEST and most DISMISSIVE I’ve encountered. I have been planning a trip to Norway from Australia for over a year. When I discovered Art Cafe I wanted to visit - I reached out them in AUGUST 2024 to touch base and try and secure a reservation, they were rude then - we don’t even know if we will be open message back in December. I messaged again mid December ahead of our arrival - no response. Messaged again and they said after 1pm today. I messaged back and requested at 2:30 reservation. Shock horror no response. I arrived at the cafe at 2:20pm to the rudest most arrogant rude blonde woman who yelled at me and refused to even acknowledge the messages before yelling us out the door ! The food was okay but expensive. My main concern was that the staff were very cold and the cafe was empty, as if they place was closed. They also turned away a small group of 3 Indian people twice, for absolutely no reason. The old bald man at the bar said "do you have a reservation? Then no." And just walked away from them. I thought it was really rude and it felt blatantly racist because they had no problem with white couples walking in without reservations, or another white man who came at the same time as them. I posted about this on the tromso travel group and the owners wife (blonde woman) liked a comment saying "Indian tourists are the worst." This was really shocking and upsetting to see that the racist motives are confirmed. We felt really bad for the Indian people because they seemed really excited to actually eat there, but the food was basic anyway. Please support other local businesses - this one seems to have a reputation for being cold, racist, and turning customers away for no reason. The empty atmosphere inside wasn't intimate, it was awkward, like you're sitting in a closed down cafe and being served by a waitress in her tracksuit. Not...

*Changing my review to a 1-star because the owner came on here trying to gaslight me of my experience. Honestly, read all of the other 1-star reviews. There seems to be a pattern here.

This review is mainly for the service we experienced. As Filipino Americans and the only non-white patrons at the time my friend and I dined, we felt that we didn’t receive the same service as the other customers. The server never asked us how we were doing, if we were enjoying our meal, none of the small talk she was making with the other customers. Language wasn’t an issue, as we are American and speak perfectly good English. For context, the table next to us were also Americans as well (but white) and she asked them twice how they were doing and even asked if they wanted dessert. The server barely even made eye contact with us. If we knew we would receive this type of service, we wouldn’t have ordered so much food or even dined there.
