This exquisite building is considered to be the best surviving colonial house in Lima with the superbly carved intricate balconies, elaborate doors and a courtyard surrounded by rooms and ironwork.

Interesantisima casa-palacio-negocio de los Marqueses de Tagle. La visita es gratuita y guiada por grupos. Dura unos 30 minutos y no se hace nada pesada. Tiene unos materiales increibles, caoba de centroamerica, piedra de Panama, azulejos de Sevilla, y todos originales de 1700 aprox. Entre otras cosas puedes ver el incrible mascaron de proa de un barco pirata! En 1725 tres barcos piratas holandeses intentaron saquear Lima. El marques y sus colegas salieron a su encuentro y les dieron una tunda palos. Ademas para mas verguenza flamenca les mangaron dos barcos. El mascaron de proa de uno de ellos, un impresionante leon rampante, sigue expuesto donde lo puso el marques, en el patio de esta casa-museo.

El ingreso es libre ☺ El Palacio de Torre Tagle es una extraordinaria expresión arquitectónica del Virreinato del Perú que data del año 1735, quedarás enamorado de sus impresionantes balcones de madera, el oratorio de estilo barroco, sus pinturas coloniales y de su bella calesa de 1740 (el transporte de la época). De lunes a viernes es sede del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores por lo que no se puede ingresar a sus instalaciones.

Update June 2024: The palace is now open to the public Saturday and Sunday from 400pm to 700pm... they have free guided tours. You must first register at the office next door and show your identification. As always, check for updates before going. I came here in late June 2023 and the security guard said it is closed to visitors, since the protests in Peru that happened earlier this year. There is no date set for reopening, so don't make a...
