We ( 2 friends and myself ) went last night September 3 , 2025 to taste the famous “ Pisco Sour “ at the Maury Hotel , the experience was very negative . I got to the Hotel before my friends , since it was the first time I asked a young man with a white apron for the bar , he ignored me at first , I ask him again and he just looked at me silently , I asked him then if he could help me and he just moved his head and hand signaling “ no “ ( he didn’t say a word ).
My friends came around 6.30 pm and we headed for the bar ( by then the receptionist directed me to the bar ) , to my surprise the young man with the apron was the bar waiter .We got a table and the waiter came with the bar menu , and in a rude way he placed the menu on the table and said “ Pisco Sour cost. $ 30.00 SOLES small glass “ and he left. We called him to place our order of 3 Pisco Sour , the drinks were Ok , we order 3 more and after a while we paid and left . We come from New York , we have been to many restaurants and bars in NY , San Francisco , Las Vegas , etc .and we have never been treated this way , no to mention that accustomed to the Americans , we are very generous tipping service workers if the service received merits . Lastly , since the Maury Hotel is a well known hotel , and the drinks are pricey , I will expect good service , and the barman to be dressed properly with a uniform and the same for the waiter . We were very disappointed , we will not come back and we will advise to our business partners to...
Read moreA big disappointment. This is where the famous pisco sour was invented. However: the lime was not freshly pressed, the egg was not freshly broken, the pisco was not freshly poured. The pre maid mix was poured into a blender for a couple of minutes with ice. The resulting taste was not bad, but the remaining liquid was poured back into the original mix which must have made it more watery (due to the added ice) for the next customer. It is true we were there at 12 noon. But it was empty and somewhat old. Not in a good looking way, but with broken lights, a desk with a broken glass top, and a chair with torn leather. The views of the outside form the bar were of a construction site. Which although not their fault, they could have closed the window as it had translucent glass which would allow the light pierce in but not see the ugly views. The bar tender was a bit rude and dressed very informally. We thought he was the cleaner waiting to go into the hotel (no offence to cleaners). No music to cheer the ambience, and overall a pity as this place with its historic cocktail and antique building could have a huge queue outside. But, unless you Google where pisco was created, you wouldn’t even know as they don’t even announce it outside!...
Read moreThis is a traditional and emblematic bar from Maury hotel where Pisco Sour was created (in theory according to a leyend).
I've have tried this pisco sour 3 times in different times between 2024 to 2025, and let me tell you to all the audience, that I don't remember a worse pisco sour than this one.
I think the old man who do it believe the lie that he is doing a great job. Unfortunately, Even the service is terrible, seems like You have to go 30 meters out of the bar to the reception of the hotel to pay for this rip off.
The last time I've visited this place was with a group of tourists, just to let them try (warning in advance) a Bad cocktail, and then to take them to other place to try a really amazing one. So they can see what I am talking about.
The bartender, old man, didnt even shake anything, or didn't even put something on the blender, he had it already mixed, and it was terrible.
I didn't say anything, because it's just an old man who think he is good or maybe who doesn't care at all to server a shame of an alcoholic Beverage which is supposed to be peruvian Signature cocktail.
I will never come back to this place. It's not Worthy anymore, not even for doing an experiment about how...
