Hilarious to read all the Reviews complaining about the water wuality. The muddy coloration of the water is because of the sediments, not because it’s dirty. In fact it’s actually healthy and can be used for medical purposes. It’s unfiltered, just as it comes out of the ground. After a long day of hiking there is nothing better than soaking in a nice warm pool. This is a charming, very basic hot spring bath that the locals visits. The way to the hot spring is steep (but if you came here to see Machu Picchu what were you expecting). Entrance fee is 20 Sol. On your way up you’ll pass couple of places where you can rent towels (around 3 Sol) and even a swim suit. There are changing cabins and free locker rooms. Entrance to the bath is allowed only wearing swimsuits, no street shoes allowed. There a couple of different pools with varying temperatures, from 14*C (57*F) up to 37*C (99*F). There is a bar and they will serve you drinks while you are soaking in the bath. Absolutely loved this place, charming and relaxing.

The town may be called Aguas Calientes (hot waters),  but the water is tepid at best. I might just be a little bitter because someone took my hat after I forgot it on a peg in one of the dressing rooms. The setting of the baths are second to none. Think towering, forest-covered mountains and an impressive view down the valley. I do feel, however, that the baths would have been way more appropriate for the setting if they used the plentiful natural stone to build a bath-complex that fits with the ruins everyone is so eager to see. That being said, the small pools are easier to clean. This is essential, since every night they drain and scrub the baths for the next day. It was not the the most hygienic setup by the time we arrived in the late afternoon. And it made me miss the meticulous, clean onsen culture in Japan.

Came here with the view that you shouldn't expect developed country sanitation in municipal baths in an emerging market. I was certainly correct there. Changing rooms and toilets are dirty and the baths are suspiciously brown. I can't be sure whether that is due to minerals in the water or poor cleaning but it doesn't fill you with confidence. The looks of horror on the faces of US/European tourists as they enter the area is quite entertaining.

Despite this I was willing to give it a go and hopped into the smaller 34°C pool. Unfortunately the base of the pool was missing a brick and I cut my foot as I got in (not massively serious but did draw blood). Didn't realise it was bleeding until I got out 10 minutes later. I am trying to be charitable but I can't rule out the concern that the dirty water could lead to some nasty consequences of the injury.

I would give 2 stars as someone with a strong stomach and immune system (and no open wounds) will surely be fine here but my wife insists on 1 star.

Entry is 20 sol for foreigners, towels are available for hire at nearby shops for 5 sol per towel. Lockers are free and are padlocked...

The view was absolutely gorgeous and the water was very relaxing! Unfortunately, my two friends and I had a really uncomfortable and creepy experience with one of the bartenders. First, they wouldn’t tell us how much the drinks were and told us we would just pay at the end. After we asked again for the price before ordering another, they let us know each drink was the shocking price of 27 soles, about double the price of drinks in Cusco. With every interaction with this bartender, he blatantly stared at our chests in our swimsuits, made comments on our attractiveness and made us incredibly uncomfortable. At the end, he charged us even more per drink and coincidentally wouldn’t accept a credit card. We also suspect he was trying to steal her phone and credit card, taking them from her hands and touching my friends waste and hands preforming an unasked for “spiritual rock demonstration” (which was very nonsensical and uncomfortable). We feel very taken advantage of and...
