3 STAR AT BEST - SERVICE- Met at station by very nice porter, who also checked us in. Super helpful guy. You could tell he cared. We asked about laundry since we saw it on the website and he told us it was 10 sole per kg and we could drop laundry by front desk before 4pm and they would get it back later that night. When we brought it down, another guy was there and said they didn’t offer laundry service. I told him it was on the website and he said, the website must be wrong. I told him the previous gentleman told us specifics about timing and cost and he said confidently the previous guy must have been mistaken. He said we could take it to laundry ourselves and pointed us to where it was. Felt to me like he it was one of those pain in the butt he didn’t want to fool with. Anyway, not a huge deal, but you would hope if it’s on the website, they would train the staff that’s it’s available.
ROOM- Average and dated and definitely not 4-star: relatively clean, pillows were flat, bathroom had modern elevated bowl sink, but if faucet wasn’t on more than half, the water wouldn’t make it into the sink. The rest of the bathroom was a bit worn. Shower head was set very low, tub was dated, but water pressure was really strong. TV was tiny and older (we weren’t there to watch TV, so not a huge deal). Windows were awkward to open and close; didn’t move smoothly and didn’t feel solid. View from room was very good with mountains visible and public courtyard below.
ATMOSPHERE/BUILDING: The cleaning solution they use was very strong, if not offensive. Smelled like an old hospital, not a 4-star hotel. Elevator (only one small one) was broken down two different times during our stay. Both times were resolved relatively quickly. The elevator is dated (sensing a trend?) so it seemed like it just needed a reset or something like that. Took only a few minutes.
LOCATION: About 8-10 minutes walk (all uphill) from train station. Located on the very edge of the action, so while the courtyard gives it a park-like feel, all the restaurants and action start just a few steps outside. Our view wasn’t in the water, but again, it was very nearby. Machu Picchu bus picks up about 5 minute walk.
FOOD - Breakfast was ok, but lacking options. What they had was decent, but not options you’d see at a 4-star. If we had gone for multiple days, I’d have definitely gone elsewhere after day one, even though it was included in price of room.
SUMMARY: The hotel is dated and amenities are not that of a 4-star hotel. If they had represented themselves as a 3-star, it’s still a slight stretch,...
Read moreI had one of the worst hotel experiences here.
Don’t let the beautiful exterior and decor fool you—this place is a disaster underneath the surface.
When we first entered the room, there was barely any lighting, and when you looked closely, you could see mold on the walls. For a hotel that isn’t cheap, the room quality was shocking.
The real nightmare started when I asked them to turn on the Jacuzzi. As soon as the water filled up and I turned on the motor, filthy, disgusting debris shot out from the jets—clearly buildup from years of not cleaning the system. Worse yet, when I turned the motor off, the water started rising by itself and leaking all over the floor from underneath the tub. I called reception in a panic because the room was flooding, but the receptionist just kept saying, “We’re coming,” without sending anyone urgently. I had to call multiple times, stressing that the water was spreading fast.
When they finally showed up and saw the mess, they offered to move us to another room. But the nightmare continued—the sheets in the new room were full of stains and hair. Absolutely disgusting. When I asked for clean sheets, the same receptionist came up, stood there arguing with me, and refused to help. I ended up changing the bed myself like I was doing housekeeping at a hotel I paid good money to stay in.
I want to be fair—most of the hotel staff were nice, but this particular receptionist had a terrible attitude. She acted like she owned the place and did nothing to resolve the situation professionally. Problems can happen anywhere, but how a hotel handles them makes the difference. Unfortunately, this hotel failed at every level. Between the mold, dirty sheets, filthy Jacuzzi, water leak, and unhelpful front desk staff, I will never stay here again—and I strongly recommend you...
Read moreWe are traveling with a group of 20 people many of whom are senior citizens. We requested through the tour company - G Adventures, (which is a whole other issue) to have some assistance for the elderly folks to help them up the long steep climb to the hotel. The hotel said they would send a baggage vehicle but none showed up. Several of the younger folks had to carry/drag 2-3 bags for the seniors up the steep climb. No bellman or any hotel staff offered to help even when we got to the door of the hotel. ||Finally got everyone checked in and was dismayed to find the room had no AC but did have a fan, which didn’t work. Opened the window which cooled the room slightly but the noise outside made it impossible to sleep. It had cooled enough that it was around 24c which was tolerable. ||I decided to take a shower and found no face wash cloths, one hand towel, no bath mat, and two small bath towels. This is not totally unusual in foreign countries, but I’m always surprised that Europeans and South Americans don’t seem to wash their face I guess. ||After about 2 minutes of taking a shower, the water started cooling and even at full hot, it began to get very cold until after three minutes, it was ice cold. My wife had to take a cold shower an hour later.| |Overall, the hotel is clean, but has no decor anywhere. Very bland. ||I have stayed in hotels throughout the world and have come to have low expectations of hotels in third world countries. I always assume things won’t be perfect and there will be some shortfalls and I realize this hotel isn’t the Hilton and is by no means a 4 star hotel, but for the price, I would have expected at least some help with the bags up the hill. I would put this hotel on the same level as a Motel 6 only much more expensive. ||Needless to say I...
