La Bella Vita — Restaurant in Lagoa

Tried for the first time today, and after reading other reviews and looking at the photos we were a bit disappointed with our experience. The restaurant itself has a nice feel with large panoramic windows and fresh,clean modern decor. To start we shared a charcuterie style starter which was nice. The porcini ravioli main course while having good flavour was a touch dry and lacking sauce, and the other main, a mixed fish dish felt as though it had been overdone - maybe both dishes had been left on the pass too long, I don't know. The panna cotta dessert was good, but maybe needed a touch extra flavour (vanilla pod?) the pistachio gateax was nice though. It was also quite a wait between courses, which was surprising considering what we ordered. White wine, water, 1 shared 2 person starter, 2 mains, 2 desserts cost us just over €120. First time in my life I have been refused to be served in a restaurant. The restaurant was completely empty except for guests at two tables. The rest of about 20 tables was empty. The waiters had nothing to do. It was more than 40 degrees Celsius outside and when we sat at one of the empty tables, I said that we wouldn’t like to have a lunch or dinner (it was 4 o’clock) and that we would like to have a drink and a dessert with a cup of coffee, the waiter told us that this is a “meal restaurant” and simply walked away. Our time at La Bella Vita was wonderful, we were two families with four children between us and were all looked after so well. The setting is lovely, really peaceful and away from the crowds of Carvoeiro.

The chef brought out a delicious amuse-bouche to start, and the rest of the meal that followed was excellent. Most of us had pasta, which wasn’t too heavy as some pasta dishes can be and all deliciously flavoured. The little touches were greatly appreciated, such as a selection of chocolates at the end of the meal.
