Experience: would highly recommend, though the trip may be longer than others, Filipe will take you off the beaten path to almost private locations that you wouldn't see in a standard Benagil cave tour. You get to go up close and personal in a Kayak - motor boat experiences cannot (legally) enter the cave systems. Our guide has a degree in geology and was able to share a lot about how the caves were formed and answer our questions. We enjoyed the conversations on the way about conservation efforts and challenges in the area. It was definitely a highlight of our trip.

What to Expect: Meet up is at Albandeira Beach. It can get busy later in the day but is a great spot to stay as well Trip leave 3 times a day, Filipe will often do them back to back so you will need to be patient as he takes care of the previous group Groups are small and intimate, we only had 4 total in ours which gave a personalized experience Provides all the equipment, PFDs, a dry bag to bring onboard for your non-wetables, and a bottle of water Can hold some stuff in his truck (like your shoes - none are needed on the water) The conditions of course vary. It was calm when we departed at 9am, but all the annoying motorboats would crowd the water and create rough waves later in the trip We got to go on some 'adventurous' situations. Filipe is a pro and we felt safe the whole time, but would recommend that you have some prior kayak experience before you go there is a concession at the beach that has washrooms but they are for customers only and they didn't open until later in the day

Suggestions: Take an earlier tour for better tides and to beat the crowds Prepare to get wet Bring a towel, change of clothes, and some water to wash your feet after if you're not tired after, you can do a hike along the sea for some great views. I planned a tour in the Algarve during the winter, so I had many choices regarding excursions, but Filipe immediately proved to be very helpful and, with a lot of patience, gave me a lot of information. I kayaked in Benagil and along the coast on January 2nd. It was a windy day and the sea was quite rough for our Mediterranean standards (I am Italian, used to diving in the Tyrrhenian Sea), so I was a bit scared but Filipe reassured me and I was able to enjoy the trip a lot. He is confident but also very careful, he knows the stretch of sea very well and he is an expert lifeguard. We traveled in a sit on top canoe. We only got wet when entering and exiting the sea because there were waves, but he water temperature was much better than I expected. I wore a rashguard and a sweatshirt, simple fitness pants, rock shoes and I never felt cold. I just forgot to bring a change of clothes so I could take off the wet ones, my fault! As a geologist, Filipe has a deep knowledge of the rock formations in the coast, which he is able to explain in a simple and fun way. He is also passionate about this territory, you can tell that his whole life is dedicated to protect what he loves and to make sure that people can also love it and protect it. The absolute highlight of our Portugal trip! I’ve contacted Filipe just one day ahead of the tour date to check if he has any availability for the next day. He advised me with the times of his tours and when I said that I might not be able to make any of these times due to traveling from north Portugal this day, he advised if the conditions are well a later tour might be available. I took the chance and stayed in touch with Filipe through the day. Due to delays on the way to Algarve we arrived after the last tour of 11:30 already had left but Filipe said he can do 2pm this day which we obviously agreed to take. We were SHOCKED when it was just the 2 of us and Filipe made the later tour just for us. This is so kind of him to allow us to have this experience before we left Portugal few hours later. The tour itself was amazing in every aspect, well thought selection of locations to visit, we were very lucky to have each of the spots just to ourselves between other groups visiting, also Filipe chose locations that are less frequently visited by tourists but also included visit to best known Benagil cave.
