The Monument of Gratitude to France (Monument de la reconnaissance à la France) is a significant historical landmark located in the Kalemegdan Park in Belgrade, Serbia. It was built in 1930 to commemorate the alliance between France and Serbia during World War I and the sacrifices made by both nations. The monument features a statue of a woman wearing a Phrygian cap, symbolizing freedom, created by the renowned Yugoslav sculptor Ivan Meštrović.

The inscription on the monument reads: A la France! MCMXXX (To France! 1930) in French, and "Aimons la France comme elle nous a aimés, 1914-1918" (Let's love France as she loved us, 1914-1918) in Serbian.

The sculpture was created by the sculptor Ivan Mestrovic and is located in the very center of Belgrade, in the Kalemegdan park. The monument was placed on 11th of November in 1930 as a sign of friendship, mutual assistance and cooperation between Serbia and France during the First World War. The sculpture represents a woman holding a sword, symbolizing France, which rushes to the aid of Serbia, and on the east side of the monument there is a woman sitting relief, representing the Sorbonne, educational assistance for Serbian youth during and after the war. Erection of the monument was funded by voluntary donations of the Friends of France and the Association of former pupils of...

"Let's love France as she loved us in 1914-1918", reads on the base of the monument of Gratitude to France, a slender Marianne in place of honor in the fortress park of Kalemegdan, overlooking the confluence of the Danube and from the Sava to Belgrade. A barometer edifice of Franco-Serbian friendship, veiled in black during the NATO bombings in 1999, in which France participated, smeared with graffiti when Serbian President Vucic was relegated to a secondary tribune at the 11 November ceremonies last in Paris, flourished and renovated to be inaugurated by President Emmanuel Macron. The visit, scheduled for December 2018 and postponed due to the crisis of "yellow vests" in France, will be the first of a French president in Serbia since that of Jacques Chirac in 2001. It is supposed to "restore links distended",...
