Soooo... This place. This place. Yes. Prior to the Kafeterija opening, I've worked on a major project for restoring it's interior. The building is a masterpiece of secession by Viktor Azriel, an architect who has given Belgrade one of the most beautiful buildings on the continent. But back to the restaurant. Went in to check out the interior almost a full year after it opened, ordered a coffee and, ever since, it's been the only coffee place I've given the time of day to. The menu on the tables will explain the coffees and the staff is usually willing to assist further. Also, if you're there and hungry, the salmon Benedict sandwich is beyond amazing. Offensively overpriced but amazing. Now. Regarding the less stars given. Every single restaurant of this chain is flooded with people throughout the whole day. You will need to squeeze yourself between strangers as well as yell at your company in order to have a conversation. The staff is clearly overworked and, considering the state of the economy in the country, underpaid, so, while I've had some disappointing experiences, I cannot hold it against them. Things you can get here aside of ordering in or to go are the coffees themselves, beans or ground as requested. In addition to this, they sell specialty coffee makers of various brands. For example chemex jugs, which, I'm pretty sure are only available in a total of three places in the city. So all in all, give it a visit. Maybe tell me what you think about the interior too. Edit: removed one more star for atmosphere. It's overcrowded, loud. Very unpleasant. But the building...
Read moreA bad coffee shop with equally bad service. We visited it a second time to give it another chance, but they are simply hopeless. Smoking is allowed in the café—the non-smoking area is on the second floor, but it doesn’t help at all since it’s an open space and the smoke drifts down.
We ordered two different cappuccinos. They only brought one, and it was lukewarm (apparently, it sat on the bar counter for a while before the waiter picked it up). The waiter completely forgot about the second cappuccino.
The staff doesn’t work—they hang out instead (they don’t notice customers, make you wait forever, don’t understand coffee, don’t know the menu, but always find time to play around with each other and chat). For a business, this is disastrous, as you’ve lost two customers forever, and I would never recommend your café to my friends.
From now on, I’ll visit other coffee shops in Belgrade where they pay attention to customers, explain the blends like experts, and recommend something interesting from the menu.
In the end, when we asked for the bill, they brought us a check for a more expensive coffee that we hadn’t ordered. We waited another 15 minutes while the waiter and the manager discussed the issue before coming to us.
This coffee shop is lucky with its location—tourists will keep stopping by. But it’s unlucky with its management and staff. I’m giving it a solid...
Read moreI had an absolutely fantastic experience at Kafeterija Magazin 1907! From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by the cool interior, relaxed atmosphere, and great music. It's clearly a very popular spot, and despite being busy, the service was top-notch. Our server was super quick and incredibly nice. They were upfront about a slight delay with our food due to a large group arriving before us, which we really appreciated. That level of communication is rare and truly excellent. The double espresso was a perfect start. Served at the ideal temperature with a beautiful crème, it began with a familiar espresso flavor but then developed a really interesting and enjoyable aftertaste. The Salmon Breakfast Bagel was a showstopper! It was HUGE, and every element was delicious. The bagel itself was incredibly soft and tasty, and the smoked ham was phenomenal. But the real star was the creamy cheese – absolutely divine! The bread in general here is just outstanding. For a group of four, the prices were very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food and drinks we received. We left completely satisfied. Overall, Kafeterija Magazin 1907 offers a superb dining experience with a great atmosphere, excellent service, and delicious food and coffee. I highly recommend it and will definitely be...
