For a retiree of 78 years of age, to have or not to have a dental implant is a big decision to make noting the high costs incurred and considering the greater risk involved for an elderly with a shorter healthspan ahead.

But everything comes with a risk, including deciding which dental clinic to choose among the many available.

A consultary session date was set for 25 May at TWC Dental Implant Center with Dr Tan Wei Chong.

First impression counts and we were quite satisfied what we experienced the minute we were at the clinic. As wife and I walked through the sliding door on the appointed date we felt the sense of being welcomed by Meimei and Yiting then Dr Tan Wie Chong with whom after seeing my condition informed me of the plan for my dental implants.

Hence when we were briefed on the costs of the whole proceedings it did not take us long to confirm our acceptance.

On the appointed day of the dental surgery on 11 June it included the ex̌traction of 4 teeth( plus one) leveling at the jaw bone and the implant. I have always felt that pain is temporary, compared to the long-term benefits of overcoming challenges. Still being a bit worried and apprehensive would be normal for anyone going for the implant, something not experienced before.

Nevertheless from the time I came into the operating room I felt I was in the good hands of Dr Tan and his team. They were able to provide me with a smooth and comfortable implant experience.

A doctor with Dr Tan's experience would certainly notice the behaviours of his patience. That would be so especially when those undergoing the same procedure like mine who would be lying on the surgery reclining seat for about an hour and a half. Words like " are you ok encik .. relax, kumur, if sakit raise your left hand' bring comfort to the ears.

Any discomfort during the procedure had been minimised by his warm attentive and professionalism that helped to put me at ease during the procedure.

I hardly felt the pain associated with the surgery, including the extraction of a stubborn molar tooth. Even then it was less traumatic than it could have been.

Lying on the cozy reclining chair could have made be comfortable and relaxed which may have prompted Dr Tan to thank me for being a patience patient, twice, perhaps inview of my being more then an hour lying on the chair😃.

After the surgery an x-ray image was taken of the result which was explained to me by Dr Tan.

Following that, counter staff Meimei and Yiting attended to my medication pills follow up advices and about the expenses incurred for the surgery. My wife and I found they did it both in a friendly and professional manner, and to the other patients as well.

One other observation we note is the good relation/ helpfulness among the clinic staff members as they go about their duties, which is good for any organisation and which could spill their level of service to their patients.

I am due for dental implant and needed a second opinion. I found this clinic through Google. The dentist attended to me was Dr Lai. As it was my first visit and she took the liberty to explain the health condition of my full set of teeth by studying the xray i took from another clinic and visually checked on them too. A normal dentist would have just gone straight to the point to explain what u want to know, keeping the consultation as short as possible but a passionate one would spend the time with her patient to make sure everything was clearly explained. She went the extra mile and was very patient and detailed in explaining dental implant procedures. Skills wise - I am not able to comment as I have not done it. The charges are reasonable, cheaper than the usual clinic I go to. The clinic staff, Mei Mei and another one (did not get her name) are very friendly and they talk to you like a friend. This is the kind of clinic I would recommend even though it is my first visit because visiting dental is scary for me but they made me feel safe and assured. Thank you Dr Lai and Mei Mei.

Post surgery update (28 Jun 2025) The procedure took an hour. Dr Lai has good skills and is confident in doing the dental implant. There was no pain throughout the procedure.
