We booked in advance at 10:15 and arrived to the entrance door 9:45 am there was short waiting time to open the door average queue. But once it was 10:00 we entered smoothly. 11:30 by that time there way a very long queue. We booked online from the official website as I totally recommend for all the attractions in Madrid the earlier the better to get suitable time slot. we’ve chosen self guided ticket and I believe this is enough as you can read the info label on...

La Puerta de España es una de las entradas más majestuosas del Parque del Retiro en Madrid. Ubicada en la calle Alfonso XII, justo frente al impresionante Museo del Prado, esta entrada ofrece una bienvenida imponente a uno de los espacios verdes más icónicos de la ciudad.

El diseño arquitectónico de la puerta es elegante y clásico, en perfecta armonía con la belleza del parque. Al cruzarla, te encuentras con amplios caminos rodeados de árboles, ideales para pasear, hacer deporte o simplemente relajarte. Además, es una de las mejores rutas para llegar directamente al Estanque Grande y al Monumento a Alfonso XII, dos de los puntos más emblemáticos del Retiro.

🌿 Consejo: Si visitas la Puerta de España, aprovecha para explorar el parque temprano en la mañana, cuando hay menos gente y el ambiente es más tranquilo. También puedes combinar la visita con una parada en el Museo del Prado, justo al otro lado de la calle.

Honestly a wonderful vibe in Retiro Park. It’s not a straight shot so you have to walk around the small lake to access it. Puerta de España is a gate/door located on the north west side of El Retiro park that’s pretty simple compared to the other doors/gates of El Retiro park. This is the most optimal gate/door to the Retiro park if you’re walking from the Prado Boulevard, Monument of the Fallen for Spain, and other stuff from that direction.

Creada a final del siglo XIX como cerramiento del Parque hacia el nuevo barrio de los Jerónimos, está estructurada en 3 huecos cerrados por reja metálica. Tiene 4 grandes pilares, con ladrillo interior y piedra al exterior, ricamente ornamentada. Los dos centrales constan de basamento, dobles columnas de orden jónico exentas hacia la calle y pilastras de lo mismo hacia el Parque. El amplio vano central lo cierran 3 dobles puertas de forja metálica: la intermedia más alta y coronada por un arco y el escudo de Madrid en bronce.
