Easily the longest street in Madrid, in ancient times it was actually the road leading from the centre of Madrid to the nearby university city of Alcalá de Henares, to the northeast. It goes for miles. If you are up for good shopping deals you will concentrate on the section starting after the Puerta de Alcalá and Salamanca and going all the way to Las Ventas. If you are more concentrated on monumental beauty you will stay on the west section, coming down from Sevilla and finishing after the junction with Gran Via at Cibeles. Spectacular and most diverse architecture in that area, going from gothic revival to pure modernism.

Sin duda, una de las principales arterias de Madrid, que nace en plano centro y atraviesa la ciudad en su eje hacia el este; es además una de las más largas, con más de 600 números. Si sigues su curso, podrás conocer algunos de los edificios más emblemáticos de Madrid, como el Instituto Cervantes, la Puerta de Alcalá o Las Ventas.
