The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Sri Lanka is a beacon of cultural enrichment and accessibility in art. Their commitment to building a comprehensive art collection that the public can enjoy is commendable and essential. The museum is laying the groundwork for a future where art, architecture, design, craft, moving image, and performance are not just preserved but are part of a living dialogue with the community.

One of the museum's key priorities is the sustainable development of its collection, aligning with its long-term vision. The efforts in cataloguing the collection, enhancing capacity building, establishing proper museum storage, and crafting a thoughtful collection policy are foundational steps towards achieving this goal.

Visiting the museum offers an insight into this ambitious journey. It's not just about viewing art; it's about witnessing the evolution of a space that aims to be a custodian of heritage and contemporary creativity. This museum is more than a destination; it's a testament to the power of art in shaping societies and preserving histories.

For anyone interested in the dynamic realms of modern and contemporary art, this museum is a must-visit. It’s a place where you can see the future of art being...

Exploring the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Sri Lanka was an enriching experience, especially with the spotlight on Minette de Silva's architectural brilliance. As I wandered through the exhibit, the vivid description of her being the first Sri Lankan woman architect and the first Asian woman elected to the Royal Institute of British Architects in 1948 added layers of historical significance. The two-floor setup, staircase, bookcases and a small living room in the exhibit painted a tangible picture of de Silva's innovative designs. What struck me most was the personal connection I felt with one of the exhibits, as if the lady within it was speaking directly to me. This visit seamlessly blended art appreciation with a profound celebration of an architect who paved the way for a 'regional modernism for the tropics.' Overall, an unforgettable journey into both the artistic and...

The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Sri Lanka (MMCA Sri Lanka) is truly one of the best art museums we have ever visited—and we make it a point to return at least three times a year to experience the latest exhibitions. The space is immaculately clean, warm, and inviting, creating the perfect atmosphere to enjoy and reflect on the art around you.

One of the things we appreciate most is the respectful environment; you're left to explore at your own pace without being disturbed by staff, making it an ideal spot for thoughtful observation. MMCA consistently showcases some of Colombo’s most exquisite and thought-provoking works by talented local artists, making every visit a rich and inspiring experience. It's more than a museum—it's a celebration of Sri Lanka's evolving...

Wish I got more perspective inside. Loved reflecting on how the burial of violence and cruelty occurs in the sunny Sri Lanka today. It’s based in Colombo but really there should be so much more study and showcasing of the war’s effects on people and center Tamil perspectives. Even the name of the exhibit ironically is about land reformation which smudges the subject of the the war’s impact. I’ve spent a month here looking for stories of the Tamils and even when asking locals many confuse facts with each other. There should be more on this marginalized and discriminated population. I understand it’s the start of shedding light post-war though because it is somewhat recent.
