I am travelling and my partner bought me a spa treatment. My partner said this spa is one of the best spa in Sri Lanka, with the best service for this location and so understand that I am coming in with high expectations.
See how my expectations were not met below.
I chose royal body ritual with full body scrub because I wanted massage and foot scrub that made my muscles feel relaxed. The body scrub was the only good thing as I felt it got rid of my dead skin cells and the scrub was nice. The massage was light and I thought it was just a starter but turns out that was it. I expected more deep tissue massage as opposed to gentle strokes up and down because that's what helps you feel relaxed??? But maybe that's what some people like, a light light massage and they feel relaxed after. Not me. Maybe I bought wrong one??? Lesson learned and left unsatisfied even after the lady offered to give me 10 minutes more of a deeper massage.
I wanted facial that did a basic but nice job at caring for my acne prone skin so I bought stage 1 ultra glow facial treatment ritual. For context, I only had one pimple on upper lip area and a red one about to fade on my right cheek as a result of foods I was eating. The lady was going to put this white mask on to lighten my skin but because I had two pimples she said this wasn't the best and then she had me go through what I felt was like a back and forth conversation on what I wanted. Like it sounded like the mask wasn't good for me so why was she still giving me the option to choose. I just didn't feel like I wanted to be making choices and I should be relaxed on the bed knowing the lady was doing the right thing for me. And in my opinion she should have provided a service such as I see two pimples on your face, I know this isn't good for you so let's use something else that won't aggravate your skin. Conversation closed without my input. I felt confused in that conversation and thought why why why is she asking me this. Look I get it, sometimes you have to ask. It's not what you ask but how do you it okay. So hence the situation triggered a sense of confusion for me which I didn't think was required. Come on, it's the best spa in Sri Lanka right. What kind of service is this then. Moving on, she was scrubbing my face hard. That's what I felt. And that freaked me out cos with acne prone skin I know as a standard you don't scrub and you don't pop pimples either. Her scrubbing popped my pimple! I asked her not to pop it and she still asked me if she could pop it. Omg. Girl. No. My dermatologist people would be screaming. What is happening. Like I felt anxious and worried she wasn't really looking after my skin at this point so everything after I would be asking what's this, what's it for, why are you using it, can you be soft and gentle around my pimples. Again, it's the best spa in Sri Lanka and I felt like my needs weren't taken care of hence I felt the need to ask. How could you expect me to be silent and peaceful when what she was doing didn't help me feel silent and peaceful??? Extractions hurt a lot and I teared up. I said ouch a few times and moved here and there to help me stay relaxed as it really hurt. It felt like torture on my face. It was my first time doing extractions. She put some cream on my eye, that burned. Ouch ouch. She had to take it off. It was okay on other parts of my face.
Full face threading. Lady lost her mirror and made noises searching for it under the bed. She didn't find it. She asked me to walk to bathroom to check. She missed some hair and did me again. Went home. Noticed some hair missed.
Other small annoying things was the door not being closed properly, hearing people talk outside, a mobile going ding every few minutes, shuffling here and there.
I am not a Karen. I don't usually complain. I told the front desk man a sentence of my complaint above because I was so frustrated I couldn't say more and I didn't even ask for a refund even though I was going to ask as Monti asked me to come back for deep tissue massage. Bad experience....
Read moreThere are some interesting products, but the prices are overpriced and clearly aimed at tourists. Be prepared for a consultant and security guards to follow you from the moment you enter the store and throughout your visit. However, the consultant couldn’t answer any questions about cosmetics—she just followed me very closely, as if suspecting I would steal something. At times, she was so close that it was uncomfortable to browse the products. I even noticed that one of the consultants was shamelessly looking into my sister’s phone.
But the worst part was their attempt to scam us on the price. I had calculated in advance how much I should pay, but at the register, they told me a higher amount. When I pointed it out, the cashier insisted her price was correct. Only after checking the receipt did I see that they had charged me more for four creams than the prices listed on the shelves. When I returned, they offered me free samples instead of fixing the receipt. I refused, and they did refund the money—but they did it so quickly that it seemed like a common practice for them.
Additionally, they claimed that spending 30,000 rupees would get me a free gift. However, at checkout, they suddenly mentioned that I also had to buy a specific product for 5,000 rupees to qualify for the gift. This was never stated beforehand, and it felt like a sneaky tactic to make customers buy more after they had already picked out 30,000 rupees’ worth of items.
Overall, the consultants don’t actually help, they just follow you around. At the register, they overcharge you, try to confuse you, and push unnecessary products on...
Read moreWe booked the Royal Package with high expectations, but unfortunately, the experience fell far short. Upon arrival, we were met by Dr. Ishani at the reception, whose attitude was unnecessarily curt and unwelcoming. Despite arriving slightly early, we were firmly told to return at exactly 11:30 AM. We complied, only to be made to wait until 11:50 AM as they were not ready clearly, the punctuality standard only applied to guests.
As part of the package, we were offered a complimentary facial mask, which Dr. Ishani showed us beforehand. She presented two packets and explained they would be used during our treatment. However, not only were the masks never applied during the session, but when we politely asked to take them home since they hadn’t been used, we were met with conflicting and frankly insulting responses. First, the male staff member claimed they were out of stock. When we pointed out that we had just seen the product, he backtracked, saying we could only take home the contents if we had the wrapper. Finally, he told us we could purchase it in their store. It felt as though we were being taken for fools, and the whole exchange left a very sour taste.
As for the actual treatment, it was equally underwhelming. The massage lacked any real technique or pressure it felt more like we were being lightly oiled rather than given a proper therapeutic massage.
For the price and the promises made, this was a thoroughly disappointing visit. The lack of professionalism, poor communication, and dismissive attitude made it an experience we would not recommend...
