We decided to try this place out for brunch since it was nearby our hotel, and we walked by it multiple times and there were always customers.
We sat down, and ordered a pad thai, a tom yum noodle, and 2 iced red milk. We asked the server if the red milk was the Thai iced milk tea and she said yes, but when it came, it was literally cold milk with strawberry syrup!! We waited for about 40 minutes for our food to come, even though the restaurant only had 2 other tables to serve at the time. I was growing increasingly impatient, and we asked the server if our food was coming. If they didn’t come within the next 5 minutes, we would’ve just paid for our 2 drinks and walked away. The pad thai and tom yum noodles were ok, nothing spectacular. We chowed down our food, paid, and just left to continue our day.
Of all the restaurants we have eaten at during this trip to Thailand, this was pretty close to the bottom of our list. The extremely slow service and disinterested staff really turned us off. Would not recommend this place, choose any other restaurant on Thapae Road, and you would have better luck with more decent food and...
Read moreWe found this restaurant just around the corner from our hotel and stopped in for a drink and loved the atmosphere, the staff are friendly and unless crazy busy the service is prompt.. We sat at the windows facing the street and watched the world go by. The beer is icy cold, and the vodka and fresh orange juice was delicious. I then tried vodka with red Fanta and loved it also.
Our second visit, we decided to try the food and were not disappointed. The menu is extensive, covering traditional Thai dishes as well as some western favourites making the decisions very hard. The ingredients are fresh, and the meals cooked to perfection. My partner loved the regions signature dish, kow soy chicken. I ordered the chilli free broccoli and prawns with the ham fried rice and absolutely loved it. Second night for dinner and we tried the chicken and vegetables with rice (again, delicious), the hawian fried rice with chicken (another great dish!), the grilled beef (amazing!) and the chicken wings (sooo good!) This is a wonderful family owned business with lovely friendly staff that is a must visit when...
Read moreWe visited Phonnon Cafe at night and were warmly greeted by the friendly and smiley staff. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill from there. Communication was a challenge, as our waitress struggled with English, which led to a lot of confusion with our order.
We asked for gyoza and were told it was pork, but after it arrived and we started eating, she came back to say it was vegetarian — and then later corrected herself again, saying it was actually chicken with vegetables.
We also ordered onion soup, which tasted like it had come straight from a microwave or pre-packaged mix. Overall, the food was disappointing and didn’t meet our expectations. The service was kind but lacked clarity, and the quality of the food just...
