I went to a Kachin restaurant in Chiang Mai and I would give 5 stars for the location and decoration. For the food, Shan Hkak (beef curry) is 5 stars, really good taste. Sipa (vegetarian curry) is also good. I ordered three meals and the other one is Sarpieh. For Sarpieh, I think it’s expensive because I live in Bangkok and in Bangkok the price is around 150 baht for similar amount. And as an ethnic Kachin person, I would give only 2 stars for the taste because they don’t use the Sarpieh liquid which is specifically made for Sarpieh, and they don’t put any meat in the liquid. Sarpieh is supposed to eat with that liquid together with the noodles. Overall, a lovely place to visit for serving dishes like Shan Kak and Sipa, but I hope they can improve the authenticity of their Sarpieh and adjust the price to be more reasonable. In my opinion, overall price of the restaurant is a bit high, and in Chiang Mai it should be cheaper compared to Bangkok because cost of living and income here are also lower...
Read moreAlthough the good location is tempting, do not bother coming here. Soft drinks were warm after being told they didn’t have half the items on the menu. We waited 30 minutes after ordering food to be told they had ran out of Massaman chicken curry. I’m not sure how they ‘ran out’ as you cook the curry from fresh so i can only assume it would be reheated. i ordered a pad thai instead which was nothing close to a traditional pad thai. The egg arrived on top of the noodles, not mixed in as they should be, the chicken was cold and it was a pathetic sized portion that wouldn’t even feed a 4 year old suitably. We also ordered cashew chicken and pork gra pow, which after the dishes arriving 15 minutes after one another, the food managed to get more disgusting as it arrived. I had travelled with my Thai step mother who was shocked to find out the chef was Thai. Absolutely disgusting food and very poor service. picture is the remaining gra pow my step mother...
