If you come by, stop and get the Reis Seasoning Blend… I suppose it’s their signature house blend. I’d fly across the ocean to get more, it’s that good. In fact, I did. Their Jasmine scented perfume in a rollerball jar is one of my favorites. And the Turkish saffron- they called it a lower grade to the Iranian saffron, but it is 100 times better than the McCormick saffron I grew up with. I brought some home to a friend and she had the same overreaction I did. 🤩 It can be an overwhelming experience shopping here. It’s similar to Amazon prices- fair, but no bargain. The difference is you won’t get this quality on Amazon (or likely anywhere back home). Use your iPhone calculator to convert the currency so you know roughly how much things are. Write down everything you’re getting, weight amount, and price in lira, then in dollars/home currency to create your own invoice because it adds up fast. There was no itemized receipt given and the accountant in me is not comfortable spending that much money without an itemized receipt. When they use your credit card, sometimes in Türkiye they ask if you want to buy it in US dollars- never ever do this anywhere. You’ll get a terrible exchange rate. Even at the ATM never select “convert to USD”, always buy in local currency. Your bank will give you the best possible...
Read moreThey literally added a zero to the agreed upon price making our 2 lbs of Turkish delights almost $200 instead of almost $20. If you must do business here, pay cash. Don't use a credit or debit card.
This particular purchase was a chip & sign transaction. With a tap-to-pay, the customer sees the amount first before they tap the terminal. In this case, it was chip and sign and the merchant took the credit card without showing the amount. Only when we got a printed receipt did we see it was for 10x the agreed upon amount. Yet the merchant never provided us a slip to sign to agree to the amount either on paper or on screen.
We immediately on the spot asked the merchant to reverse the charge and cancel the purchase and they refused.
Our bank initially denied our dispute saying the merchant's bank provided proof that we agreed to the amount. The supposed proof was just another copy of the receipt without a signature.
We appealed the denial on the basis that the merchant's proof did not show a signature for the chip & sign transaction. Our bank then agreed and the dispute was resolved...
Read moreWorst shop to buy sweets. Dont fall in their good talks, they will cheat you. If i could give less than 1 star I would have. We bought many items from this shop. They charged almost double the price. Quantity was also manipulated, which we only recognized after reaching back to our country. They also cheated us with false products. As we foreigners are not able to read and understand turkish, we have to believe what they tell us about tge product, and we bought and realized later to be cheated. And most important thing is, the packed products which they gave us had a lot of worms and flies when we opend on reaching our country. Then only we checked the products they gave us and re measured quantity. Giving double the price for the products was not a problem for us, but cheatiing on quantity and quality is a very big problem. Manipulating customers with fake products is also a problem. Please be careful when shopping...
