Istanbul is very big, old and nice city, almost everywhere is a shopping center;) Turkish food are very tasty and delicious, many historical place and museum for visiting..Turkish citizens are friendly and nice however 99% taxi drivers are a true bast... so always try to use public transport and avoid using taxi in turkey, they stuck himself to the traffic, going to the wrong direction, after half way driving saying to you that he don't know the address.. circling the streets instead going straight to the address.. and much more tricks to get more money from you.. i speaking Turkish like my mother language and I had several time pay much more than i should and one time taxi driver bring us to the 1,2 km away from our hotel and said street is blocked.. ( sure if my girlfriend was not with me i jumping to my doggy mood instead paying ) other thing is when we walked on the street near restaurants or coffee some workers stop us and with low English level try to bring us to the table almost with force, when I saying we finished dinner right now they saying ok its fine but come one time more eat in our restaurant too.. I accept one day Turkish municipality forbidden this kind of behavior from restaurants workers.. Many Arabic women's from head to foots in black covers all around the city even in the private beach with full of women's in bikinis! Totally visiting Istanbul is very nice full of fun and joy.. visitors who don't speak Turkish language avoid walking at night in the empty and dark sites alone or...
Read moreSomeone in hijab stole my iPhone at this station while I was getting into the tram (She bumped me hard, creating a stronger distracting sensory stimulus to draw my attention away from my pocket). I noticed it right after I was in the tram and went to the tourist police.
They referred me to the actual police, who did nothing but to pass me around their local branches and they did not even let me enter the police office to file a report even though I had the IEMI number AND the precise location of my stolen phone via "Find My". We tracked the phone to the location in the photo. The phone did not move for the rest of the day, and was turned on again at midnight in the same spot. I had activated the lost mode and erase so thankfully they won't be able to us my personal info or the phone except using it for parts. We are certain that the thief resides in the apartment building on top of the restaurant in that precise location. The police did NOT help at all.
TRUE SHAME FOR ISTANBUL AND ISTANBUL POLICE though. Istanbul is beautiful itself but it has turned into a city where everyone wants to rub you of your money and belongings, whether it be the tons of tourist traps (restaurants, sites, taxis, everyone who can charge you much more than the quality of their service) in the city who unfairly take too much money from you or take your...
Read moreGreat place to walk around and window shop for a whole day if you are transiting through Istanbul. The Blue mosque and Hagia Sophia are also within the same complex here. If you plan to enter, keep a scarf or get one at the counter near the entrance. The touts will try to sell you scarfs to cover your head but you need not buy as you will get one for free just befor you enter the mosque. Loved the food stalls and roasted water chestnut snacks. In terms of restaurants - Expensive but good food places and cafes.
The beach side is again lovely for a stroll or to watch the sunset. There regular boat rides 2-3 times a day from there. It costs about €20 for one and €30...
