I had a terrible experience at Sultan Palace Cafe and Restaurant. The boss lured me in with a false promise of free red tea and baklava (they did give me the baklava for free) and he also hinted that he might give me the soup for free as well by saying "I will try my best, brother" (the exact wordings he used). He said he would try his best, which made me feel welcomed and appreciated so I decided to go in, plus I read some good review of this restaurant online. However, after I finished the food, the staff charged me for the soup without telling me. I asked him politely why he did that, and he had the audacity to lie to my face and say he never said the soup was free. He acted like I was delusional, and he tried to gaslight me and make me doubt my own memory. But I know exactly what he said, and I have proof. I was vlogging my whole dining experience, and I recorded him saying he would try his best to give me the soup for free.
He was disrespectful and dishonest to me at first, and he insulted me and called me stupid and violent when I confronted him. He was like" Why you mad and speak so loud- First of all, as me being mad at the moment, my voice was still at a reasonable volume to. Second of all - who ON EARTH will not get angry if he or she comes across nonsense like this???? He refused to admit his mistake, and he even demanded me to apologize to him for me talking to me too loud and calling him stupid back. He was manipulating me and trying to make me look bad in front of everyone. He gave me a free Turkish coffee at last and trying to make me feel good (maybe because he knew that I am very good at being "anti-gaslight", lol), but that was a pathetic and useless attempt to make up for his horrible behavior.
The food was good, but not worth the price. I paid too much for a this meal (995 TL) and a terrible experience in the end. I could have had better food and service elsewhere for a fraction of the price. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone who values honesty and respect. It was a very disappointing and frustrating experience.
I also realised that a kid was working in the restaurant too, not sure if he's the boss' son, but I feel sorry for him to witness how his boss (or dad) was being dishonest to the customers. I hope when he grows up and works in the future, he does not follow this attitude. It is sad to see such a teenager being exposed to such a negative environment.
To make things worse, the staff was trying to pressure me to give the restaurant a good review on TripAdvisor. Before I confronted the boss, I was thinking that the food was so good that I would give this restaurant a five-star review for sure. But then the staff made me feel uncomfortable because he went upstairs and checked their TripAdvisor account, and he said "Oh why you didn't leave us a good review?" I was like, "I will do it on my own if I want but I don't feel like doing it here." It's very funny that they do these things completely wrong - You can never push customers to write a good review, but instead you can only encourage them to write it on their own. Plus, they are not giving anything back for a good review (it's not supposed to do it anyways because it's a dishonest way for leaving reviews online that might trick other people ). They are just desperate and greedy for positive feedback, even if they don't deserve it.
Let me recap, paying for the soup is not the main issue, I honestly DON'T CARE. To be fair, their food is really good, especially the lamb shank. But the main issue is the boss was being dishonest, aggressive to the customers for nothing, accusing and gaslighing them. In a nutshell, if you want good food + honesty, think twice before you go. If you want good food only, I mean, you can still try their food which is very decent, but still, there are many better options with cheaper...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Sultan palace cafe restaurant, a charming Turkish gem tucked away in the heart of the city. From the moment I stepped inside, I was transported to the vibrant streets of Istanbul, surrounded by warm colors, intricate decor, and an inviting ambiance.
The culinary adventure began with an array of mezze, each bursting with authentic flavors that captured the essence of Turkish cuisine. The hummus was velvety-smooth, the baba ganoush had a delightful smokiness, and the stuffed grape leaves were a true delight. These small plates provided a wonderful introduction to the rich tapestry of tastes that awaited.
For the main course, I opted for the lamb kebabs, and they did not disappoint. Grilled to perfection, the tender meat was seasoned with a blend of spices that danced on my palate. The accompanying saffron-infused rice was a fragrant and delicious partner, while the fresh pomegranate salad provided a refreshing contrast.
The service was impeccable, with attentive staff who were more than happy to share insights into the dishes and their cultural significance. The dessert was a sweet finale to the meal – a slice of baklava that was both flaky and lusciously sweet, ending the experience on a high note.
If you're in search of an authentic Turkish dining experience that seamlessly combines traditional flavors with modern elegance, Sultan palace cafe restaurant is an absolute must-visit. The attention to detail in both the cuisine and the ambiance makes this restaurant a standout, and I'm already looking forward to my next visit to savor more of Turkey's...
Read moreMe and my brother had a horrible experience here. We were invited in by a worker who guaranteed they had the best food. I was like okay, lets see how it is. He recommended us to get a platter which had "all kinds of meats, with servings of fries and rice, that also comes with baklava for dessert and soft drinks included. All that for 1000 Lira". 1000TL for dinner for two is expensive considering their menu had one standard meal set at 200 TL.
When the food arrived, it was alot less than we expected. It looked nice, and tasted like standard grilled food. We certainly didnt feel like it was worth 1000 TL. There was nothing Amazing about the food. It was just standard turkish food. We were told that Baklava would be included as dessert, however after finishing the main course, nothing happened. Me and my bro got bored and asked for the check to leave.
We expected something less of 1000TL considering we didnt have dessert that we were promised. The bill was at 1200 TL, with 2x 330ml Coca cola costing 100TL EACH. Yesterday, we bought 0,5L Coca cola from the store for 7 TL...we were too stunned to speak. We paid and left thinking we got scammed hard.
Would be VERY CAREFUL of ordering food here, and would recommend to order straight from the menu, not from the waitresses. So overall: The vibe was good, they had ok food, standard service. But they try to scam...
