High technology, low frequency, little coverage Despite the super highways of more than 12 lanes, the city of Dubai is congested. The metro is a great option to get around at low cost through some areas of the city. It is high-tech, easy to use with instructions in Arabic and English, this facility is reinforced by the scarce availability of routes and low coverage of the metro. It is not possible to reach the palm islands by the metro (for now), you have to take another type of transport.

Being able to use this autonomous train system (without a driver) is wonderful in an elite city like this in the world, it is a special experience for people who come from countries like ours where most mass transportation is really inferior.

It is an opportunity to “smear” the local culture… We have seen men give up their position to their wives, in a culture that is considered macho. We really did not see any act that would lead us to reinforce this preconception that women are less than men. In fact, the custom that the man always walks ahead of the woman comes from the desert, where the man must go ahead facing the dangers and possible quicksands protecting and safeguarding his wife and family.

At the moment the lines of the Dubai metro are quite limited, but if you are staying on Sheikh Avenue (the main avenue) you will find this means of transport clean, well structured, economical and very useful. There are signs forbidding to take fish in the metro (let's remember that Dubai comes from being a fishing village)

It can be used by families with children of all ages without difficulty, it has lift access at all stations or its equivalent in access ramps. Remember to avoid having expressions of endearment or holding hands with your wife or daughters…Dubai is an Emirate and there are still many traditionalist people who stick to the law that prohibits this type of expression of endearment in public places because they think that affection is something private for the home (same reason why Emiratis women (born in the Emirates) cover their entire body and face).

In some hours the frequency of the train is relatively low, which means that it can take significant waiting times (but not that much). The planning and arrival of the trains is punctual.

It is wonderful to get in touch with all kinds of people on the subway, not only tourists, but locals, business people, families... Highly recommended, as a means of transportation and a means of cultural contact.

Metro services is the main highlight of dubai. Dubai RTA is offering a good in services and cheap in cost transportation service through this metro project. Burj khalifa is one of the metro station in this service where you get metro services in every two or three minutes. Here well furnished waiting area is available with free public wifi. Here walk way link to burj khalifa and duball mall is available. It's a famous metro station since it connects to the worlds tallest building, i.e., Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall.

This metro station will be crowded during weekends, especially during the evening and night.

If you are planning to visit Burj Khalifa and/or Dubai Mall, plan to spend at least 4-5 hours to get aware of the world class facilities, best shopping centers, magnificent views of Dubai aquarium and...

Dubai Mall walkway + travelators (commuters link footbridge) - means communication with the metro and moving pavements.

In order to get to the best of Dubai Mall, it is best to get off at the Burj Khalifa / Dubai Mall red metro station and have almost a kilometer (820 m) glass, air-conditioned corridor with a moving walkway / get to the mall. You may not drive on this sidewalk (neither children nor disables nor transport). Anything on the wheels should be taken along the ordinary passage in the middle of the corridor. There is also signaling for the blind (tactile tiles) installed in the floor. In Dubai, the traffic is right-handed and so is (theoretically) in the corridors. But, as tourists are also from countries with left-hand traffic - stamps are placed :-). As usual - just like on escalators, if you want to stand on a travelator - you are standing on the right and on the left there is a place for those who are moving along the sidewalk. I used to go there, go too slowly :-) but nice views and you can take some pictures.

Aaaaa ... one more thing ... for the first time - I advise you to count about 25-30 minutes for a transfer from the metro station to the entrance to Dubai Mall and add 20-25 minutes to reach a specific one (e.g. described) places in Dubai Mall. The second time it will not be much faster .. It's really big distance. As I wrote, Dubai Mall has more than 12 hectares and Sheikh Zayed Road - a street over which the metro travels - 7 lanes in...

Hop off at Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station for a cracking start to your Downtown Dubai adventure! This Red Line gem is sleek, air-conditioned, and your gateway to the glitzy Burj Khalifa, sprawling Dubai Mall, and dreamy Dubai Fountain. Early mornings (6–7 AM) are prime—cooler, quieter, and perfect for beating the tourist rush. Here’s how to nail it. Grab a Silver NOL Card (AED 25, AED 19 credit) to zip through gates. Follow clear “Dubai Mall” signs to a sci-fi-style, air conditioned walkway (10–15 minutes, moving walkways included for lazy struts). Dress for the chill—metro AC is Arctic, so pack a light jacket and comfy shoes for mall marathons. Fuel up at Dubai Mall’s Baker & Spice for coffee or pastries post walkway. Book “At the Top” Burj Khalifa tickets online for 8:30 AM to dodge queues, and snap sunrise shots outside—the tower glows like a desert beacon.
