Dreadful Fawlty Towers-esque experience yesterday
Waited a ridiculously long time to order and then to get our food. The food eventually arrived minus the scampi and chips we’d ordered - that was (further) delayed. When the scampi came, there were no chips. I raised this with the lady serving and she insisted the chips had already been delivered. They hadn’t. She refused to accept this, wasting still more of my and other customers’ time. I pointed out that it was fine if she’d misheard my original order and that I’d pay for another regular chips - amazingly she refused as she was sticking to her insistence that she’d delivered the chips all along! I pointed to our table to demonstrate the reality but she remained in denial…
The man cooking came out from the back. Not only was he unapologetic about this further waste of our time - he even said that the delay to the scampi was not his fault or concern! And proceeded to rifle through receipts to get to the bottom of this. He couldn’t find our receipt (which matches the suggestions of dubious book keeping in previous reviews here) and reluctantly proceeded to throw some chips in a tray for us, telling us to calm down after all this song and dance and the hysterical, irrational response we had received throughout
The food itself was mediocre - chips from frozen, fish a bit stale (having been sat on the counter all day presumably, which makes the delays more mystifying…). The place was dirty and there weren’t enough seats
Ultimately the experience was so bad it was almost worth it. You do wonder how some people can possibly wind up embarking on a business in ‘hospitality’. They were incompetent and chronically charmless. Can only imagine they rely on passing tourist trade who don’t consult these reviews. (There was no mobile data for me in Llandudno anyway, so perhaps lots of people aren’t able to do so)
If business is so tight they can’t afford to skip the rigmarole and just throw a few more chips in a tray, their days must be numbered. But in the meantime I hope they keep delivering comedic value -...
Read moreI have used George’s Plaice for fish n chips for a number of years and would always recommend to others but not any more! I visited Llandudno on Monday 25th October with my disabled son, I decided a fish n chip dinner as he enjoys it very much(usually) the order was 1cod, 1 fishcake,1 portion of chips to share a carton of peas also a carton of curry sauce.l was advised there were no fish cakes so opted for chicken nuggets as a replacement. The total card payment was £16-95.l was asked to wait outside and would be called in when it was ready.Whilst I was ordering a lady came in and asked where her order was as she had been waiting outside for half an hour and was cold! She eventually got her order but when she opened it up the batter on the fish was like concrete so she took it back in for replacement.l got called back eventually for my order.I asked for the nuggets and fish in separate trays also the chips.I was told they had no cartons for the peas OR the curry sauce so the peas and curry sauce were put with the chips. When I got back to the car across the road and unwrapped the food to eat I had no fish! I went back across the road to George’s Plaice to ask where my fish was. They looked at me stupid ,put a fish in a tray and handed it to me. I did say to the staff I have been coming here for fish n chips for many years but never again. The meal was a complete and utter waste of money.Iam pretty certain the lady who waited half hour whoever she is would agree. Very disappointing experience to say the least ,don’t even...
Read moreStopped in here on Friday evening to pick up a quick dinner. I'm not sure if I was more disgusted with the food we were given or the service we received. The dark haired chap with a liverpool accent behind the counter couldn't have been any ruder if he tried, not even a welcoming smile or hello at the least. He may have had a bad day, but when youre customer facing its not difficult to be polite.Asked about costs of food because the menu wasn't clear (special on the board was not the price we were charged). Told to stand outside and wait to be called after we had paid for our food (covids over now, and there was only 1 other person in there at the same time as us). £8.50 for a large chips that was enough to feed 1 toddler and 1 x sausage, but our portion was smaller than my sisters regular portion. Chips tasted awful! Limited items on the menu and completely overpriced (£1.65 for a bread roll!!) Food came in polystyrene containers (not very sustainable) and not wrapped in any paper so it was cold by the time we got back to our hotel. Honestly, I'd encourage people to visit somewhere else where the employers actually care about the importance of service, reputation, the environment and general politeness, not to mention adequate food taste and standards. Wish I had checked reviews first, how this place is still trading I'll never know. Spend your money elsewhere and avid this place...
