Popped in for breakfast on a Friday. Good luck if you're hoping to park ended up parking 18 mins away, plus cobbles in the run up, a little bit brutal on wheelchairs.
Was really quiet but people were popping in and out. Music was giving an echo heavy space some atmosphere, really lo-fi, good for a lazy day. Loos are annoyingly across the cobbled road in the museum though and were like....well museum toilets which kind of takes a shine off the experience a little bit.
Staff were super accommodating and attentive, no complaints- they got a sudden rush on with loads of school kids on a trip to kelham and they came and apologised for the wait which was hardly a wait anyway, felt very welcome.
Food itself is rather expensive compared to its peers. Ordered Eggs Benedict and it came out pretty quick- 5 mins tops and looked like a decent plate.
Eggs were runny, perfectly poached. Sauce was nice, not overpowering but enough for the plate. Bread it was all perched on was super chunky and fresh, all good there.
The ham though, although perfectly pleasant in its own right, was cold..... Not as in, not cooked well enough but as in, out of the fridge onto the plate.
It made a stark contrast with the rest of the meal and I was a bit surprised with it....I've always thought of Eggs Benedict being made with bacon. Granted it says it's going to be ham on the menu but I'd thought it was roasted as in....warm?
The point I'm clumsily grasping towards is that what I was eating felt more like a posh ham and egg sandwich than Eggs Benedict. For £7-8 I wouldn't have minded but for £13 it feels steep. To be fair to Joni, hams obviously a completely reasonable substitute and it's clearly marked on the menu but it being cold ruined it a bit for me.
Overall, staff were great, place was calming and chill for a lazy morning, bit of an awkward location to get to of you don't live here, was pricey and wouldn't bother with the Eggs Benedict if I came back again but would be tempted to try...
Read moreIt depends on what you are looking for. Time of day - morning, and there was only 2 other customers.
Location - wonderful.
Atmosphere - wonderful
Food - looked nice, however I had a version of eggs royale, and my friend had poached eggs with mushrooms.
Her eggs were not runny. She was not happy. My eggs - also not runny.
Service - No one came to our table to check we were happy with our food as is what tends to happen in similar places, which just made it awkward as no one wanted to kick up a fuss. We don't want the embarrassment.
If we have to go to the counter to ask for new eggs, it's just awkward.
Usually I'd not be too fussed, but it was all the eggs, and a lack of service to reflect the high prices we paid. I mean if I had paid less, then my expectations would have been lower.
Drinks - were fine, but again overpriced for what I got. I had an oatmilk pink chocolate hot chocolate topped with freezedried raspberries. I didn't enjoy it, but perhaps that's t do with my personal preference. It was topped with a squirty cream which I hadn't realised when I ordered it, so probably my fault. The server said "I've been a bit over generous with the cream" as she smiled and walked away leaving me with a messy drink that was spilt with loads of squirty cream, not checking I was okay with this. An expensive mess.
Overall for me, the quality of the food is the most important thing, alongside attention to detail to ensure the customer is getting what they expected.
Would I go again? It did look nice, I'd like to know the feedback is taken seriously, as I liked sitting in there, but I want to enjoy my...

But things to work on are that the brunch special wouldn’t allow me to swap a cup of coffee for a cup of tea… not a major ask but apparently it’s not possible. The cappuccino I asked for was really just a coffee with milk, no foam at all and was served just warm. Service was a bit slow and forgetful but it’s an early Saturday morning, nobody is in a rush so can’t complain. The food was good but the bacon on the pancakes was very soft, only just cooked which for streaky bacon is a bit odd (though the bacon was clearly good quality) the eggs Benedict were good, I’m not convinced it’s actually sourdough toast but it was good. Overall it looked a lot better than it actually was, but it is beautiful. The cocktails were delicious! We waited a long time for them but once they arrived (halfway through our meal) they were...
