I rarely leave reviews but felt the awful food we had today justified it today. Saw the menu, after looking for somewhere near the museum to eat, and given the prices and the menu itself (roast, burgers, pies) thought it would be nice. Ordered 2 burgers with fries and a roast gammon dinner for my son. £42 (exc. drinks) total which is pricey for the things we chose but expected some decent food. The burgers arrive, no cutlery delivered to table beforehand so had to wait for that. Nothing special about the burgers, one slither of bacon on mine and very generic fries - expensive but will do me. Sons food arrived, and though accidental, due to the drowning of the food in the thinnest gravy every concocted dripped onto the back of my partners coat whilst being handed out. The mash was mush, the large Yorkshire pudding was cremated, weird seasoning all over the slimy fatty gammon meat. The Yorkshire was so bad I asked for a replacement. No more Yorkshire puddings, fine we'll crack on. Son unable to, everything was so soaked with oily thin gravy that it became slop very quickly. Took it back. The manager did offer a replacement meal which we decided to try given how hungry he was. Burger with cheese and fries safe option. 7 minutes after we finished burger arrives, remember this is a 14 quid meal, generic unseasoned fries and a burger with the thinnest greasiest bottom layer of brioche bread (not ideal for wet burger), and the cheese was practically evaporated onto what can be described as an overdone grit burger. At this point it was evident that the person cooking today left his best at home. Upped and left - 42 quid lighter and a feeling of being ripped off. I wish covid had ripped lazy uninterested businesses like this off the map - wasting location potential with poor...
Read more2 burger orders were undercooked/raw and my friend, who is Coeliac, was served a gluten brownie. Our group of 4 had gone here yesterday for their pub quiz, and while there 3 of us ordered burgers. My burger was fine, but unfortunately my friend and her boyfriends burgers were both red raw and cold to the touch. The burger buns were also soggy, which made eating the burgers themselves difficult. We decided regardless to order desserts, with me and my Coeliac friend ordering brownies. As with her burger, a member of staff announced which was the gluten free item, while placing it down in front of my friend. We noticed as we were eating that hers had a biscuit layer on the bottom, while mine didn't- though we trusted that she had been served the correct brownie. Around 15 minutes after eating the brownie, my friend began feeling ill and having symptoms of eating gluten. Overall disappointed with the experience, which is a shame as I have eaten here before with family and...
Read moreNice pint and food, service should have been better. I felt the staff were scared of customers, I heard one staff member comment "oh no we have some customers" to another staff member behind the bar. If staff are showing you to the table and you take a food menu, should you have to finish a pint and go inside to get service for order at table I don't think so? To walk in seeing a member of staff eating her dinner and 3 staff behind the bar doing nothing was not a great impression especially as there was 3 other tables apart from my table (it was only 12.30). In my eyes staff should be more on it as it would increase revenue, give better ambience and plus help with the marshalling on social distancing. Nothing was mentioned about the track n trace system either. First time in this true north establishment and this is not in the same league as other True...
