Sadly underwhelmed.
My wife and I decided to book a semi last minute trip to Huntington Beach to visit friends and planned to visit Disneyland for one day to check out the Galaxy's Edge. Our kids were at home with the grandparents, so we thought to take full advantage of the adult activities! We were there with the kids a year and a half ago and have been anticipating the opening of the Star Wars addition since then.
The positives first... The attention to detail is fantastic, everything looks naturally weathered and the props/space ships look like they are able to take off and fly. The Droid production store and the light saber stores are really cool if you want to make the investment. Definitely try out the Milk Stand, it is very tasty (I preferred the green while my wife liked the blue).
Now the negatives. Don't plan to be there long as you can see everything in about an hour - unless you are waiting in the Smugglers Run line. The ride is pretty fun but distractingly interactive. If you are lucky to be the pilot you get the full effect. Gunners and engineers are in the back and you can't see around the person in front of you. It's very similar in sensation to being on the Star Tours ride, but won't give you motion sickness as it's not 3D (thankfully).
Oga's Cantina was ok, make sure you are standing at the bar or standing tables. Otherwise you will be seated in a booth and can't see past all the people who are standing. There should be screens playing the movies or something as there is literally nothing to watch or look at other than the animated DJ in one corner who is entertaining.
If you came there to shop then this place is for you! There are so many stores there selling everything you can imagine related to Star Wars!
It could use more of the characters walking around as well. We were there during the day and back at night, about 4 hours total and only saw Kylo, two storm troopers and Chebacca that whole time. Also it would be neat if the had the theme song playing in the main entrance tunnel as you enter the park to get that full effect.
All in all there isn't much to actually do there other than spend...
Read moreStar Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland is an absolutely awesome experience! From the moment you step into this themed land, you’re immediately transported into the Star Wars universe. The level of detail in the environment is insane, from the rustic buildings to the towering spires of Batuu—everything feels so real. It’s like stepping onto a set of the movies, and you almost forget you’re still in Disneyland.
The attractions are next-level, especially Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. It’s so much fun being a part of the crew aboard the Falcon. I was the pilot on my ride, and the thrill of flying through space with my friends was unlike anything else. The ride is so interactive, and the outcome depends on how well you work together, which makes it even more exciting.
Then there’s Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance—hands down, one of the most immersive rides I’ve ever been on. The combination of trackless technology, live-action characters, and incredible special effects makes it feel like you’re in an actual battle between the First Order and the Resistance. The storytelling and innovation are next-level.
The food and drinks are just as amazing as the rides. I loved Oga’s Cantina, where I had a couple of the signature drinks that are served in a cool, Star Wars-style way. Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo also offered some out-of-this-world dishes. The whole vibe of the land—whether you’re grabbing a bite or shopping for Star Wars gear—adds to the immersive experience. And the lightsaber and droid building experiences are totally worth the time if you’re a fan of the franchise.
On top of all that, the characters roaming the land, like Chewbacca and the Stormtroopers, add so much to the atmosphere. It’s not just a meet-and-greet; it’s like you’re living in the Star Wars world. I had an encounter with Chewbacca, and it felt completely authentic and fun.
Overall, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is a must-see. Whether you’re a Star Wars fan or not, the level of detail, the immersive experience, and the sheer excitement make it an awesome addition to Disneyland. I can’t wait to go back and experience...
Read moreThe hype came. People came. The hype fizzled out. And then RISE OF THE RESISTANCE came and made this place sizzle!! On its own Galaxy’s Edge has magnificent Disney Magical landscape and and Alien technology to get you through a wondrous visit to the outpost somewhere in a galaxy far far away. Smugglers Run” is a blast! The ride is interactive where you and 5 people enter a flight simulator ride and actually “operate” the functions (2 pilots, a couple gunners and engineer) The pilots “control” the movement of the ride. One person controls up and down movement while the other controls side to side movement. Gunners shoot the enemy and the engineer...well, I’m still not sure what they actually do but for reviews sake, they also have a task. It’s a very ingenious ride! As for the rest of the land, you will find enemy storm troopers on the hunt for Chewbacca, photo ops with lots of your beloved Star Wars characters and unusual flavors and food choices disguised as human food.....or is is human food disguised as alien food.... RISE OF THE RESISTANCE Is a brilliant ride filled with so many surprises. The ride is more an experience and takes you through three levels. The first is a transport to get us to safety. The second level is being dragged off the transport as prisoners of the “dark side” on the enemy ship where there are loads of unexpected surprises including being rescued by the Jedi and transported to yet another ride through an enemy destroyer ship while in full combat with the resistance!! Exciting from start to finish this 18 minute ride is a MUST!! GET A RESERVATION FOR THE CANTINA!!! Pretty awesome experience in there but you need a reservation to even get inside! I thoroughly enjoyed my first trip there and had a second opportunity to really investigate the city with a closer eye. Lots of markets and usual items not for sale anywhere else in Disneyland. All in all, I really think that it’s a very awesome addition to the park. There’s work to be done there still. Go and enjoy being a Disney fan!!!! You might even get a hug...
