I have a lot of favorite rides at Disneyland, but this has to top the charts for me and the wife as the only ride we ALWAYS go on every time we're at Disneyland. I guess that would constitute this ride as our true favorite.
I love the way the ride starts off roaming through the river next to Blue Bayou patrons having a nice lunch/dinner. To the left, there's a man listening to banjo music right before the first (big) plunge! The ride actually takes you underground and outside the boundaries of the Disneyland park, one of the ingenious ideas Walt and his gang had when they built the ride (saving space). All through the ride the famous "Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me)" song is playing along with characters that are all doing something hilarious, from prisoners trying to tempt a dog to give them the keys to their cages and skeletons watching over their plunder, to drunk pirates shooting cannons and handguns at each other (although they never seem to hit anything :-) ). Jack Sparrow is plugged away inside this ride now that all of the movies have been released and he adds a funny tinge to keep up with the otherwise hilarious antics of other drunken pirates. Look for the dog trying to bark him out of a keg - just great!
If you're at Disneyland during a hot summer day and want to take a break from the sun, this is the ride to take. From the moment you step inside the building all the way to the exit doors, you're in the best A/C in Disneyland!
Coolness factors:
The Pirates of the Caribbean ride was the last ride that was overseen by Walt Disney but never got the chance to see the completion of the ride. He died 3 months before the ride opened to the public.
If you are tired from walking all over the park and just want to sit down and relax, this ride is for you. Not only it is a long ride but it is also a cool ride to get out of the warm weather.
This is a boat ride with 12-15 people. You start off by traveling down the blue bayou as you pass by the one of the Disney restaurants where people are eating. Once you pass by the restaurant, the excitement starts.
It starts off with a steep but short drop down followed by another small drop. With both drops you have the chances of getting wet from the water. Once you complete the drops, you end up traveling between two pirate's ships firing their cannons and guns at each other which some shots will land near your boat.
After the Pirates ships, you travel through the town where you will see Pirates having a good time drinking, dancing and firing their guns at one another. It is very amusing to see!
There is a section where you will see women being auctioned off to the highest bidder. Make sure you take a picture of it as it will be replaced or removed soon due to complaints from visitors.
At end of the ride, you will see Johnny Depp's character Jack Sparrow from the movie Pirates of the Caribbean which was recently added ln the...
Ā Ā Ā Read morePirates of the Caribbean is the one ride at Disneyland that I have found everyone in my circle enjoys more than any other. Sure, other rides may provide more exciting thrills or state-of-the-art technology, but when it comes to pure comfiness and nostalgia, no ride does it better. It's accessible to all ages (meaning we could, and did, take our toddler son on with us), timeless, and atmospheric from start to finish.
Even from the get-go, there is something both charming and haunting about the slow progression through the bayou, observing (and being observed) by the diners of the Blue Bayou restaurant, the sounds of which are strangely suppressed, despite their proximity. The flickering of fireflies and the plucking notes of a banjo proceeding that first splashing drop into the depths of the pirate's cove. The persistent warning that "Dead men tell no tales". From there, scene after scene unfolds slowly before you as you meander through the underbelly of the park, culminating in the Siege of Tortuga, and the animatronic antics entailed within. And who can forget the addition of Captain Jack Sparrow, whose frighteningly lifelike visage can be spotted in several places through the second half of the ride.
No trip, and I mean no trip to Disneyland is complete without at least one ride on Pirates of the Caribbean. It is, and always will be, one of the purest and most potent examples of Walt Disney's...
