My husband planned a wonderful and memorable birthday celebration for me which included tours of African American sites in Annapolis. One tour was this incredible museum. What made the experience memorable was the private tour led by Mr. LeRonn Herbert, a member of the administrative team at the museum. His enthusiasm, knowledge, and expertise were impeccable. We learned so much about the important historical figures who are among the heroes and heroines of African American history and how their courage and tenacity made our liberation possible. Depending on your current knowledge of African American history, you may or may not need a guide. If you need a private guide, please request...

Great place and friendly staff. I love learning about history and to compare then and know is mindblowing. To see history and hear dialogue from the people in that time is moving. We as a people have to remember that are ancestors worked together to fight for what is right, no matter of skin color. My oldest daughter was moved to see and hear of all the wrongs that actually took place. We read about them and I tell her that yes things are still happening, but people of all shades stood up for what's just then and now. It's just our duty to learn and never forget history with a big heart. I...

Small museum that does a great job introducing the long and continuing journey for African American civil rights in Maryland. There is a beautiful stained glass created from broken pieces of original stained glass from the church building there that was the start of the museum. The video telling the history of how the church eventually became the museum is interesting but long and difficult to hear at times. The staff we met were very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable....

The Banneker-Douglass-Tubman museum was my main destination on my trip to Annapolis. It sits inside of a restored former AME church in the downtown area. One area had a new aged black artist's work on exhibition. The other permanent exhibition featured history of historic black figures of the Maryland past. The museum does not charge an admission fee, but please find a way to donate to support their cause.
