Reserved through Open Table and noted we were celebrating my boyfriend's birthday, yet received no special mention the entire meal. Not a big deal but birthday wishes would have been a nice touch.
My issue with our dining experience centers upon the black bean burger I ordered. About to take my first bite and noticed clear plastic that I was able to pull out of the burger itself. I immediately got the attention of our server and politely informed her of the plastic. Our server, although kind, was very inattentive and absent the entire meal- we had to request refills from another gentleman who was very helpful and quick. Thank you to that male server and I apologize for not getting your name.
I showed the server the plastic, she asked if I wanted something different and I informed her I wouldn't touch this veggie burger now. She even looked at the piece and agreed it was plastic. She took it back and about 3 minutes later another woman, perhaps a manager, came to our table holding my original plate but with the plastic piece missing. She said it was the "outer casing of a pepper," and that it's "very common in homemade veggie patties," according to the chef apparently. I told her I've been eating and creating homemade veggie burgers for nearly 20 years and not once have I come across "pepper casing" and it was very clearly plastic. The piece was almost 2 inches long and, although clear, slightly thick. She stood firm that it was outer casing.
The woman asked what I wanted her to do with it, as if to say I was wrong. I told her I did not feel comfortable eating it now and she said "so, what do you want us to do?" I felt so uncomfortable being placed in a situation where there was clearly something in my food that should not have been there yet the staff were not trained to rectify it but instead made me feel stupid.
I looked at my boyfriend, who enjoyed the fondue burger and would recommend it to others, and thought how I just wanted his birthday dinner to be special so I said I'd take my original meal and sat the rest of the time chatting with my birthday fella but not touching that burger. Furthermore, I paid for that veggie burger and the server didn't even offer to remove it from the bill.
I've been to the Glen Burnie location and the food, service and atmosphere are fantastic. By the way, I had the black bean burger there and it was delicious! No "pepper casings." I've heard great things about the shows at the Annapolis Rams Head, but next time we'll choose a different restaurant. I can move past the plastic, things happen I umderstand, but the follow-up service made me uncomfortable.
Recommendations: inform servers to check-in with customers at least once during the meal, inspect your prep and kitchen areas to ensure nothing harmful ends up in your dishes and never make a diner feel uncomfortable or stupid for pointing...
Read moreWe frequent Rams Head dockside in Glen Burnie, but we're in Annapolis so decided to try this one and will definitely not be returning.
We decided to go out for happy hour on Friday, September 12th around 5:30. It was pretty busy so it did take time for the waiter to come. By the time he got to us we were ready to order. He told us his name was Raul. Our food came pretty quickly, we ordered the crab dip and Brussels off the starters because on the corner of the menu it confirmed what we believed. Happy hour from 3-6pm. We also both ordered a drink. The food was decent, not as good as the location in Glen Burnie. We did run out of bread and asked for more. He didnt mention a charge for it as a courtesy and then when he brought out the extra bread it was luke warm and falling apart. The worst part of all of this is how long it took us to get the check. It was busy, but still he walked towards us 4 times, it could have been an easy drop off.
I won't lie I didnt check the bill before I paid, but when I went to tip I noticed it was all full price. So of course we said something first to the hostess who said, because of the entertainers we aren't doing that today or yesterday. Then to the server who corroborated that story. So of course we asked to speak to the manager because it wasn't posted nor were we told about it at any point. Also it was still on the corner of the menu if you are going to choose not to do happy hour than change the menus. She was defensive and rude from the beginning. She replied that it was posted. When we asked where she replied social media. When we replied that we are not from there and that it doesn't make sense to post it on social media and not say anything her body language said she was more irritated. We asked her to honor the happy hour price and without saying anything she grabbed the receipt and walked away. It all screamed this person shouldn't be managing anything due to not having any social skills or self regulation present in this moment. I wish I got her name because I would have called the store manager tomorrow to complain about the lack of just empathy and understanding where we were coming from. Anyways. I went and checked their social media just for shits and giggles. Pictures below guess what is not posted?!?! The fact that they weren't doing happy hour. Took screenshot for proof. Either way I will be checking my bank account. Don't trust them and I...
Read moreI came here as a part of a promotional thing related to a show at the attached music venue. Basically I signed up for this package where if you make a reservation you get discounted food and parking.
I showed up for my reservation but received no information or acknowledgement about the benefits of the package. So of course I ask “what about the parking and discounts,” and at first I’m met with resistance. “Didn’t you get more information via email?” and “Shouldn’t this have already been explained to you?” It was looking some step had gotten missed or miscommunicated somehow.
But things got straightened out quickly! I showed my server, Ana, all of the emails I had received related to my entry into the promotion. And even though it definitely isn’t a server’s responsibility to make sure that online promotional stuff like this functions correctly, Ana took it upon herself to make sure I got all of the benefits.
She provided expedient and friendly food service while also smoothing everything out with management on my behalf at the very same time. I didn’t even ask her to do that — she just did! At the end of the meal, she literally ran to me in order to give me a slip for parking validation so that I could still catch the show in time.
Keep in mind, I didn’t complain or request anything. I simply asked what the deal was with the promotion and she immediately went above and beyond to make everything right. That was really cool.
I have fun system for reviewing restaurants where I begin with five stars and subtract up to four for certain problems, if applicable.
Was anything less than excellent? — No, it was pretty excellent. The service was fast and friendly. It was clean and nice. The cocktails were well made and the food was yummy. We got barbacoa tacos and shepherds pie.
Was anything less than good? — No, it was all good. I really can’t complain.
Was anything about it adversarial? — Certainly not! Like I was saying, the service was above and beyond.
Was it worth what it costs? — Yes. Even if I hadn’t received that cool discount, the prices were pretty much exactly what I expected for this type of restaurant, and the quality of the food exactly met my expectations at those prices.
No stars deducted means five stars. I...
