ACCESSIBILITY AUDIT
There is a ramp to enter that was salted and cleared even in the unusual circumstance of snow. The outer doors are heavy, and I could not find an accessible door opener near the doors, but it's possible there was one that I missed alont the ramp.
The security machines you go through upon entry are very narrow and may not be wide enough for all wheelchairs or assistive devices. There may or may not be enough room to got around them. This may present a huge barrier for some folks.
The elevators are functioning to get to the 2nd and 3rd floors.
There is an emergency evacuation device, as shown, in plain sight on the 3rd floor.
There are 2 open art exhibits open to the public and 2 historical exhibits as well as a writing room and 2 library areas where you can request books on the catalog from the librarian. The doors are open for the 2 art exhibits and 1 historical exhibit on the 1st floor. The rest of the rooms have doors that are fairly heavy without accessible door openers.
It is unclear whether braille or large print books are available. It appears that there are books on the topic of Braille that are not in Braille.
It is unclear whether there are any books available not in English or whether language interpreters are available upon request.
The website is entirely in English without the ability to change languages. There is also no web accessibility feature on the website.
For more accessibility reviews or to write them, check out the RollMobility app. This is a great way for non-disabled folks to support people with disabilities. Be sure to follow Just If I'm Able...
Read moreIn the hallowed halls of the research library, I embarked on a journey of discovery, guided by the gentle hand of knowledge and the welcoming embrace of wisdom. As I crossed the threshold, I was greeted by the kind countenance of the woman at the front desk, whose warmth and grace illuminated the space.
With her guidance, I delved into the depths of the library's treasures, each page whispering secrets of times past and echoing the voices of those who came before. Yet, it was not merely the volumes upon shelves that captivated me, but the profound message embodied in the exhibit below—a testament to the resilience and dignity of those whose footsteps echo through the corridors of history.
The "historical site soil/dirt" exhibit beckoned with a poignant reminder of the struggles and triumphs of generations long gone, each grain of earth bearing witness to their stories of hardship and hope. Here, in this literary space, their voices found resonance. Someone remembered and showed the world.
As I beheld the artifacts and relics on display, I was filled with a profound sense of reverence and humility, mindful of the sacrifices made and the journeys undertaken. In honoring their legacy, we honor our shared humanity, recognizing that in remembrance lies the power to heal and the courage to forge a future of compassion and understanding.
In the quiet solitude of the research library, I found not only knowledge, but also a profound sense of connection—a reminder that the past is not a distant echo, but a living testament to the enduring spirit of...

What truly sets this place apart is its incredible collections. The library doesn’t just store history—it brings it to life with engaging programming like exhibitions, film screenings, and lectures that welcome everyone from students to scholars. It beautifully balances quiet scholarly space with dynamic public engagement.
