After booking four nights at a hotel of this price range I expected a clean room and excellent service which I did not receive. I imagine this was a nice hotel 30 years ago, but it won't be long until a place like this is replaced by a hotel chain with standards.
When we arrived, I saw that the overnight parking cost more than alternative lots and I asked the front desk specifically about the parking deck behind the hotel which he claimed ignorance of. It's hard for me to believe he wouldn't know anything about the rates of parking around here, particularly since that looks to be where the cars are valeted. After my own research I settled for the open air overnight parking next to the parking deck.
I suppose because we were 3 hours early, (12pm for a 3pm check in), we were on bad terms with them to start. The room we were given was dirty and remained dirty until the day we left. Its an old hotel, but I don't think that gives them an excuse to not keep it in shape. The room door itself was in bad shape. It had to be pushed and pulled very hard to close it. On the first day, the bathroom reeked and I chocked it up to the rain effecting the sewage but it was still very disgusting. To make matters worse the bathroom door was a sliding one so it was hard to keep moisture and smell out. I think that's why the carpeting had a greasy feel to it. I put my diffuser to work right away in the bathroom so my friend and I could breathe in the stuffy room. I was ready to live with all that but the bed itself was dirty as well. The one thing I need spotless in a room I'm living in is the bed but there was lint all over the corner of the bed. There was actually lint everywhere, over the glass tv stand and in the counters in the bathroom.
The hotel actually asked how our rooms was, so I was honest with them and told them that the bed had a layer of lint and unidentifiable hair on it. They sent someone up, but we were still bringing in our luggage from 2 blocks away so we had an encounter with our maid. She seemed annoyed about having to change the bed and asked us if that was how it looked when we came in. I don't think she thought anything was wrong with it, but I explained there was some animal looking hairs on the bed and that my friend had allergies and she went about finishing making the bed while we left for the day. I think the combination of the moisture from the bathroom, and lint was a perfect combination for sickness. I made sure to take Vitamin C and used Vicks Vape rub that night to keep my sinuses open.
I left a tip the next morning for the maids but when I returned the bed was made and had a new layer of lint. I also discovered a coffee ring on one of the sheets I'd missed the day before. I was pretty frustrated at this point and decided then that no one in this hotel was getting one dollar more from me. The next day when they didn't get a tip I was asked again how my stay was and I told them it was a 3. They apologized and asked what was wrong and I explained the room was still dirty. The next day's maid service was no better. One night I was looking for something and I moved my hand across the glass tv stand and cut myself on a broken edge. I had a time getting someone from the front desk to answer but eventually I had someone bring up some cheap band aids that I could not get to stay on. At any other hotel this wouldn't be a big concern but it being an unclean environment had be worried I would get infected.
Despite living in filth, my friend and I had a pretty decent time in Atlanta. I kept my cut clean, and we had a great time exploring the area and eating Atlanta cuisine. Check out was a sad reminder of the money I wasted staying here. I decided to check out a day early and the front desk had the audacity to remind me I wouldn't get that night's expense back. As a Georgia resident I'm embarrassed that non-Georgian natives may stay here and think this is how we live. Atlanta is a great place, but bad hotel management can really destroy a trip for...

Given the history of this building, I was so thrilled when my boyfriend took me here for my birthday. I have looked forward to staying here since it opened. However, I was very disappointed with how our stay went.
First and foremost, the check in process was easy. The woman who checked us in was very kind and helpful.
We got up to our room. It was very small. That's fine though, as it was more about the experience of staying in this place. We also noticed that the room was a bit warm, but we also noticed that the A/C system was turned off. We turned the A/C on and left to catch our dinner reservation. When we got back about 2 hours later, the A/C seemed to be cooling things down a bit. We went to sleep. Both of us woke up around 2AM because of the heat. The A/C was running, but upon inspection, no cool air was coming out. I turned the temperature down to 60 (the lowest it would go), and tried to go back to sleep. We both tossed and turned for the remainder of the night, barely getting more than 2-3 hours of sleep.
We finally decided to get out of bed around 7AM. Sleep felt pointless as our room thermostat was set to 60 degrees, but the temperature gauge read 79.
My boyfriend tried to make coffee to give us a little energy after the terrible night's sleep we had, but the Keurig in our room was broken.
The bathroom is so small and the room was so warm that a quick shower caused the whole room to feel damp and even more uncomfortable. We ended up propping the door to the hallway open just to get some relief while we were getting ready to leave.
I discovered that I left my hairbrush at home, so my boyfriend called down to the front desk to ask for a comb, to which the person on the other end seemed confused by (???), and said they didn't have combs (which I thought were pretty standard at hotels).
When we were finally ready to get out of there and go home to get some real sleep, we stopped by the front desk to check out. We very kindly told the receptionist of our issues, and she basically put it back on us, saying we should've called.... At 2AM. So, they wanted us to call downstairs at 2AM, to ask for a room change, while we were trying to sleep? The only thing that sounds worse than trying to sleep in a very hot room is having to put clothes on at 2AM, pack the bags, and move out of the room to another room. The receptionist seemed 100% apathetic. As an Atlanta local, born and raised, I'm very disappointed with the lack of service from that receptionist. This is not what we should be showing visitors of Atlanta.
Maybe the "Number 1 Hotel in Atlanta" should check that their rooms are in order prior to letting guests (who are spending a pretty penny) into them? Just a friendly suggestion. Seems like some of the service staff should be trained in how to react to customer complaints.
Very bummed to say that this was a disappointing experience. Sad to say I likely will not return...

I arrive around 8pm on a Monday night. Of course there is only one person working and a line of 6 or 7 people/groups. The entire time the associate is checking people in, they are screaming at the top of there lungs, âTHE DOOR IS OPENâ. They are yelling this because in order to open the door it requires you have both hands on the handle and use all your strength as you yank as hard as you can to get the door to pop open.
It also takes the associate 10+ minutes to check each person in. The associate would take the customerâs license and then klack on the keyboard for the next 9 minutes, typing god knows what. Then has you swipe your credit card.
I was in Atlanta for work and traveled with 4 other work associates. It took so long to check in each person that the first person in my group went to their room, found out the room door doesnât lock, came back down, got the room switched out, went to new room only to find out found out the key cards donât work, came back down, got the key reprogrammed, when back up, changed and came back down. While all that took place, no one else in the group was checked in.
When I finally get my key cards, I grab a luggage cart to load my equipment on to. The tires on the cart are flat making it nearly impossible to push the cart.
After struggling to push the luggage cart to my room, I open the door and get blasted in the face with the smell of cigarette smoke. The smell was so powerful, someone must have smoked multiple cigarettes in there that day.
The room itself is grimy and gross. I did not want to ever let my bare feet touch the carpet. Everything is just kind of sticky. Lamp in the corner turns on but the shade is broken and leans due to the stem not being tightened down to the base. One of the other work associates, I was traveling with, shower was full of mold.
You have to valet your vehicle, which makes sense the hotel is in downtown Atlanta. No problem, unless you have an early flight because the valet is not open 24hours. You will have to call down to the fount desk and get them go get the car.
I wish this was an outlier for a Marriott property but these days this is just the norm. Hopefully this was the straw that broke the camels back and my boss will stop putting us up in Marriott properties. Even with all the points he has racked up, you can tell he is over it and ready to move on and start over with a new hotel chain.
No idea how this hotel has a 4 star rating, nothing about it is above a single star. And...
