I'm specifically reviewing this HEB's delivery service. They do HEB deliveries to my part of town in north central Austin, and one doesn't have a choice.
They do a decent job of the shopping aspect of delivering groceries, and put some effort into it.
However, they don't have the driver side of the service together, and they half care. Last night was the third time I've had the same problem; it took about six phone calls over an hour to get my groceries delivered during the scheduled one hour time slot, because they didn't have any drivers come get it. I kept getting told someone would call me back with the next step, and I always had to call back because they didn't. At one point they didn't know if my order had been picked up and didn't check. Finally at ten minutes to the hour they told me that someone had picked up my order 5 minutes ago and should be arriving shortly, but I got a text saying it would take the driver an hour to get to me, which would have required me to wait an extra hour when I couldn't wait. The Curbside staff transferred me to a manager, who kept arguing with me. The driver actually came right along, and he said, we were only six minutes late, whatever.
I need to be able to depend on HEB to make my deliveries on schedule without worry or fuss.
But when I talked to the driver, I learned a mouthful. The Curbside staff and hte store manager both told me that they had signed off on my order to another company to make the delivery and HEB is no longer responsible - which I've heard atleast twice before on other orders.
I asked the driver who she works for. She was the fourth driver to tell me, she works for HEB. She does not work for another company. I asked, who signs your check? She proceeded to tell me all sorts of interesting details about her check. HEB pays her $3 per delivery, and she mostly works for tips. Noone has EVER told me this - and I tipped $3, so she made $6 minus gas and other expenses to bring my groceries five miles and make the return trip back. I had changed it from the default tip of $2.80. I am not responsible to tip her $10, because her EMPLOYER is responsible to PAY her, and I didn't know they weren't. I paid atleast $11 including a $5 delivery fee, and assumed the delivery fee was for the driver. Who specifically pays you the money? She said, HEB pays me. In other words, HEB is LYING, and HEB has LIED to me four times on this subject.
HEB is paying its delivery drivers less than it costs them to make the deliveries. They're basically volunteers. Small wonder if HEB has trouble getting them to actually come and deliver your groceries! This poor woman may be LIVING in her car for all I know, because she sure can't afford to live someplace else on what HEB is paying her, and if she weren't completely desperate, she certainly wouldn't be doing this job!
Amazon pays its contract delivery drivers $18 an HOUR, from which they have to deduct expenses, and the default tip to deliver to my house is $5. And people say they're slavers.
This entire scene completely stinks, and I won't be using this service again. And, HEB doesn't exactly have a captive market. It is hard for me to get all my groceries home without a car - and some of them will be bought at the Walmart near...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI live really close to this HEB and it is literally my favorite grocery store to visit, I go about once a week (or more) sometimes every two weeks and it never fails to have everything I need, organized nicely, friendly professional help if I can't find anything, great prices and I like the fact that they are always organizing the store and it is also always very clean, even the bathrooms which is a big plus since I have a bladder the size of a 3-year-old and use it often.
What I like the most about this HEB is the quality and variety of their produce most of the time they have fresh vegetables and fruits to choose from even when they are scarce in other places they have a surplus of everything you need, with reasonable prices and oftentimes you will even find little coupons around the store (at which time I usually stock up) if it's something that I need and use regularly. The only thing is that it tends to be pretty crowded at certain times and days, so I like to go in between those hours to avoid long waits in the line. But they have this self checkout to help combat that.
This grocery store really is everything you need. It definitely has much more "bang for your buck" if you're a bargain shopper like me or that's just what you're looking for specially if you have a family. Reasonable prices, quality products, friendly staff and professional service. I always visit HEB one I need something fast, quality and at an affordable price,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreCustomer service at the cash registers needs more training on respect and hospitality of customers. There needs to be at the minimum just some acknowledgment of the customer like any normal interaction when youāre at any store buying anything. There should at least be eye contact and a greeting of simply hello or whatever but even when I greeted and tried to smile in the cashierās face no response or anything but kept chatting with her coworker and when I asked if her register was open she was ready to fight me and argue, like what!!
It is unwelcoming and disrespectful for the customer to have to guess whether a cash register is open or not simply because the cashier is too busy chatting with her coworker. Until the customer feels like they need to ask to make sure itās open so they donāt end up unloading their groceries and switching registers because itās closed. The cashier and her coworker responded back rudely and angrily ready to start a fight and argue, very surprised by my question that yes it is open and staring like how could I and dare I ask this.
Please up your customer service at this location HEB I believe the cashierās name is Bianca an African American lady and the coworker she was talking to (which happens to be her manager which makes things even more questionable) is a Hijabi but canāt...
