Littlefield Fountain, which is located in front of the UT Tower on The University of Texas at Austin's campus, is ICONIC! This is a must-visit landmark when you are on campus. Per the Smithonian's website, Littlefield Fountain is: "A World War I memorial fountain sculpture comprised of a bronze prow of a ship (the Boat of America) emerging from a large wall behind it. The ship bears a personification of Columbia (the Spirit of Independence), holding aloft two torches (the Flame of Freedom) and flanked by two military figures (Army on the proper left; Navy on the proper right). Ahead of this arrangement are three plunging, finned sea-horses (symbolizing mob hysteria), only the two outer ones mounted by merman (man's discipline)."

The sculpture affiliated with this fountain is absolutely beautiful. The fountain itself is of great significance to The University of Texas at Austin, and students will often be found taking photographs at graduation in the pools of the fountain. :-) I absolutely recommend checking Littlefield out when you are...

I took The Woodlands High School, Speech and Debate here for a competition recently. Littlefield Fountain was our drop off and pick up point. At night the fountain is all lit up. It was beautiful. Driving around the campus was a little confusing with one way streets and streets that have only a U-turn at the end of them. The students are everywhere on foot, bikes, skateboards and scooters. Many of them were powered. When battery operated scooters ran out of the power they just lay them down on the ground and leave them. Also, if your driving a vehicle watch out because they don't obey traffic laws and even walk behind backing school buses like they...

I spent a good time admiring the fountain sculpture cast by Pompeo Coppini in the 1930's and while it was supposed to be a monument for the Confederate cause and ended up being dedicated to the soldiers of WWI, it nonetheless displays tolkienesque accents with allegorical figures riding horses in frozen movement. It took an Italian sculptor to display such mastery.

This monument was erected to honor the "Sons and Daughters of the University of Texas" who "gave their lives to their country" during World War I. Beautiful monument to remember the sacred sacrifice by those who fought for freedom from tyranny and oppression.
