Anyone who visits Austin, Texas knows there is plenty see and do. Most tourists start off with a visit to the state capital building before making their way to Lake Travis, the zoo, or one of the other tourist attractions. If the shopping bug bites you and/or you want something to eat and drink, then a good choice of places to visit is the Domain.
The Domain is a shopping center, but not the indoor type that most of us are familiar with. Rather, this is an outdoor shopping center and that means that as you walk from store to store, you will be outdoors, subject to the elements. This could mean an exceptionally hot visit if you go during the warmer times of the year, but never fear- the stores, restaurants, are air conditioned so relief is only a few steps away at any moment.
As for the stores, the Domain has several popular chains like Dillards, Macy’s, Bath and Body Works, and Dicks Sporting Goods, plus several specialty shops and eateries. Some of the more unique options include Peter Millar, Untuckit, Wink Threading, and others. The overall emphasis at the Domain seems to be clothing stores and the prices lean toward the upper end of the cost scale. However, there are moderately priced places as well, so don’t let money deter you from paying a visit.
Moving to the food, visitors will find several popular chains such as Subway, California Pizza Kitchen, Starbucks, and Maggianos. If you want something a little more unique, you might want to check out Flaming Pizza, Urban American Grill, The Brass Tap, and others. If you don’t want a full meal but just need a quick, fruity or sugary treat, you can find places selling smoothies, milkshakes, and other quick fix food and drink.
Parking at the Domain includes some street parking, right next to certain stores. But the bulk of the parking is in parking garages. They are offered free of charge and there should almost always be a place to park your vehicle. The only exception would be on extremely busy days, which are usually on weekends. It might take time to find a space and since the Domain is an outdoor shopping mall, there are pedestrians everywhere and that means it could take time to navigate through the narrow streets.
Austin is a good place to visit for several reasons, but whatever your reason for coming here, the Domain is a good place for a quick shopping excursion and/or a place for food and drink. It’s got a good deal to offer and there are even open spaces and play areas for kids and for dogs. It’s a practical and fun place to add to your next...
Read moreI spent thousands of dollars at various stores throughout The Domain but you guys absolutely need to improve on your “restricted” parking at certain restaurants. If the store's name or logo isn't present on the sign how would people know they can't park there? My vehicle was towed away without any notice! If anything, the surrounding stores/restaurants could make a call out to their customers to move their vehicles with a time limit before they get towed. With that, my vehicle was towed 20 mins from The Domain. What if you guys towed the vehicle of a parent who has a toddler with them? You expected them to Uber for 20 minutes on the highway with no car seat for them. You left me stranded and you can put someone's child endanger. I’m a disabled Veteran and you guys don't know if I need special equipment to drive on the busy Austin roads. Do better guys! 200+ dollars to get my vehicle back, the inconvenience for a sale, split me from my wife and toddler, and terrible signage. To make it even better, I got back in my vehicle, and the towing company did something to my brakes because my ABS light was on. Do better, we spend thousands at the establishments there but you guys have the audacity to tow our vehicles without giving someone a chance to move them. How about having a tow yard there at the domain so we can easily walk to it? How about more security there too, because my vehicle was broken into there in broad daylight a year ago. With all the money you guys make there, you can pay for more security there on Saturdays as I'm sure that's the busiest day of the week. I would like to know what you guys will do to...
Read moremy partner and i have never been here together. but, i was both excited to hear about the lives of caffeine-addicted, brain-rotted teenagers and in need of a suit for a wedding. i have been shopping since before i was 10 and am well-conditioned for such activities. as luck would have it, many neglegent parents will deposit their human children here for hours. but, i did notice that most menswear is broken down into 5 categories: beige, grey, soft green, navy and black. i made my way through a selection of stores, moving southeast through the large apartment-building-posing-as-outdoor-mall. if you don’t like navy, some stores will offer you some shade of light blue, or perhaps even a pastel purple. many of these stores insist on pink as an option. i am well aware that men who wear pink are regarded as “real” men. i am wondering if we have identified any other colors that can explain for me that i am also a “real” man. i want to also acknowledge that this land was once occupied by native plants and wildlife, bugs and the occasional breeze. is it possible we can return to that? i can shop somewhere else for “real” pink. as luck would have it, i ended up finding some old clothes i had planned to donate and decided to keep...
