Let me start off with this: Lolita was our first stop in Boston on our 4 day mini vacay and NOTHING on our trip came even close to the experience we had here! We were also STARVING after a 6+ hour flight and delay, so we came READY TO EAT DINNER. We made reservations ahead of time (this is an absolute MUST, especially if you are traveling and don't really know the area and/or wait times!) and are so glad we did because, of course, we got lost on the way (it was also raining) and had to call to say we'd be a few minutes late. The vibe was POPPIN - totally full house with great music and what a BEAUTIFUL restaurant through and through. We were seated right away, which told us that they take reservations very seriously lol. Okay, now the important stuff!
The service: Serena was ✨️PHENOMENAL✨️! Our favorite part about her taking care of us was how genuine she came off - definitely was not in it for tips/paycheck/etc. She was consistent in checking on us, even though she had several packed tables and on a Friday night. Serena was very sweet, funny and quick to get to us.
The starter: Really cool that they serve complimentary shaved ice with a splash of tequila! Whoever came up with giving guests a buzz BEFORE they order anything else is a GENIUS! 🤣
The drinks: Just order one of everything because they are SO GOOD and kudos to your bartender(s) because we are pretty sure they dumped a whole bottle of tequila or mezcal in each drink. 😂 No selfishness at Lolita! Broken heart was my favorite, though!
The food: DELICIOUS! When I said we were hungry, I meant it. We ordered tacos al pastor, brussel sprout tacos, zucchini balls 😂 (forgot the actual name, but who cares because they're on the menu), sofrito quesadilla and queso dip. See, told you we were hungry! All of it - GONE. 🤤
The dessert: Per usual, we couldn't decide and were stuck between the pineapple tres leches cake and bubu lubu. We asked Serena what she recommended and she mentioned the same ones, so naturally, we ordered both and INHALED them. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING desserts! 🤤🤤🤤
Above and beyond: At the beginning of our dinner, Serena asked us if we had been there before and we mentioned it was our first time in Boston and we were celebrating a birthday. At the end of our entire meal (post-dessert and all), Serena took it upon herself to bring a cotton candy with a cute little candle on it, set it in front of the birthday boy and very sweetly said "Happy Birthday"! Most of us hate the whole birthday spectacle, but obviously this time we were excited about it and the way it was presented was perfect!
If we could leave more than 5 stars, we would! This experience was ✨️BEYOND EXCEPTIONAL✨️ and we can't thank you all, especially Serena, enough for setting the Boston bar SO HIGH.
Thank...
Read moreThis has to be one of the worst experiences that I have ever had with a restaurant/bar in Boston, in all of Massachusetts & honestly maybe anywhere in the world that I have traveled (we travel a lot & eat out at least twice a week in Boston). Lolita’s is a place that we have been to a number of times and have always thought highly of for good drinks & atmosphere. A group of 9 of us went out on Friday night, and to preface this, we are all doctoral students so everyone but myself were from out of the state. After showing all of our IDs at the door and getting inside, we were told that there were no tables left, but we could help ourselves to hang out at the bar. The moment I got to the bar the bartender, a tall gentleman, was already extremely rude and when I asked for clarification with the drink menu, he just handed me the menu and told me to read it. I ordered a drink and he then requested to see my ID, which mind you I had already given at the door, but okay no problem. After ordering my drink, I added 2 more drinks to the order for my friends and he then demanded to see their individual IDs as well. Considering we were a big group, I tipped well to set the precedent that we were all mature adults who were there to just relax & have a good time. One of our friends had a Canadian ID which they had approved at the door. When she went up to the bar to get her drink, the bartender denied giving her a drink as he requested that she have a passport. She explained that she had been there multiple times before with her ID and was never given any issues. He said he wouldn’t serve her. She was respectful and said okay. The bartender then decided to deny the rest of our party drinks and called the bouncer over to tell us that we were no longer allowed to be there. We were absolutely appalled, at least 5 of us who already had drinks hadn’t even had half of our beverages. After I mentioned that we had paid for our drinks and should be allowed to drink them the bouncer than proceeded to say that I had 3 seconds to finish. As a black woman with many other people of color in our group, this is the worst treatment I have ever received. The manager Melissa, who was also at the door was extremely unhelpful and didn’t even allow us to state our case. We’ve definitely made a mistake of ever supporting Lolita’s and will definitely make sure to spread the word amongst our friends, family, and colleagues. There are many other bars and late night places in Boston that have much better service and drinks/food, that won’t treat you so poorly. I would go somewhere 10xs more expensive before I ever step foot in...
Read moreMy recent experience at the Lolita Fort Point location was disappointing and left me questioning whether I’ll return. I’ve visited their Fort Point and Back Bay locations several times before, always enjoying the food and atmosphere, but this visit on December 13th was an exception.
After a holiday party, my friends and I ordered two gin and tonics and two gin and sodas at the bar. When we received the drinks, all four were gin and tonics. Understanding that mistakes happen, my partner politely asked the bartender to remake two of the drinks. Instead of a simple acknowledgment, the bartender aggressively repeated the order and dumped the drinks out with clear frustration, saying, “Fine, I’ll remake them.” My partner calmly responded, "Don’t get mad at me, I wasn’t the one who made them wrong."
While I waited for the new drinks (about 15 minutes, she blatantly ignored me until I prompted her), my partner was suddenly pulled aside by the manager—a man with a ponytail—who falsely accused them of calling the bartender a derogatory term (a phrase I’m not allowed to use on Google reviews) and threatening her. The manager responding, "well I don't know why she'd lie about something like that" my partner responding, "I'm not sure you know her better than I do". The manager then asked my partner to wait and walked away, meanwhile the situation escalated when a bouncer stood uncomfortably close to my partner, making them feel uncomfortable enough to leave. This was a completely unfounded and inappropriate accusation.
I spoke with the manager to understand what had happened, but he was vague and dismissive, only saying, “Well, we didn’t kick them out.” Later, a few friends who stayed behind also received incorrect drinks (ironically enough they were attempting to order gin and tonics and got the incorrect drinks) and were told by the bartender that she wouldn’t remake them without charging again. The same rude, unprofessional, defensive attitude persisted.
As someone with a background in hospitality (as well as two other people in our party), I understand mistakes can occur, but the lack of accountability and aggressive behavior were unacceptable. This bartender’s behavior, which seems to be a pattern based on other reviews, is a serious concern. While I’ve always enjoyed the food and ambiance at Lolita, I won’t be returning after this experience and will no longer recommend it to friends...
