Bon Me is a quasi Vietnamese fast casual eatery. I got a sandwich (also known as bánh mì) and it tasted decent. The bread was soft and a little flakey, I've had worse. The fillings were largely true to form, pickled carrots and cilantro, but the pork was questionable. Even on the menu the pork is listed as "Chinese BBQ pork". I guess it is fusion, but why not serve Vietnamese style grilled pork? Shrug, it wasn't bad I guess. Then I got a so-called Vietnamese iced coffee. The cashier poured me a cup of some very near black coffee. I asked if I could get it with condensed milk and she had no idea what I was talking about (look up Vietnamese iced coffee if you have no idea either). This was also all somewhat pricey, at around $10-11. I wouldn't go back. I don't care that it is not authentic, fusion is good if you're producing something you different with appreciable benefits--that's just not the case here. It's just expensive Vietnamese street food with minor tweaks that add little if anything. Caveat: I know I'm white, but I used to live in Vietnam with my wife, whose family is Vietnamese. I grew up near the largest Vietnamese community outside of Vietnam. I'm hardly an expert on Vietnamese food, but I do have some relevant knowledge and experience.

The location is fantastic pretty close to the Boston Tea Party Museum and the service is friendly and quick. Ordered a vegetarian banh mi and tofu rice bowl with Vietnamese cold coffee. They did forget the jalapeños in the banh mi but it was 5/5 overall. The rice bowl was tasty as well and the quantity was great as well. The only thing not upto the mark was the iced coffee and that could be because they might not use the Cafe du Monde beans which are generally used in other Vietnamese places. Still one of the better budget friendly options near downtown.

I ordered the japchae noodles and Korean style bahn me sandwich. The noodles - 1/5 This was takeout. At the bare minimum, I’d change the takeout box to a bowl. The box gets soggy and the food doesn’t look as appetizing at that point. The noodles themselves were so-so. I think if they were in a plastic bowl container, they would have stayed warmer longer. Korean style Bahn me - 5/5. Sandwich is definitely the highlight. Delicious and paired well with the addition of scallion jam. I wish I took a picture but ate it too fast.

The food was pretty good and the price was not bad, but I came in with 4 people who all ordered the same thing, and it was like a freight train hit the kitchen. The restaurant wasn’t very crowded, there were maybe two people in front of us before we ordered, but somehow it seemed like 4 orders of pho was enough to bring the kitchen to a grinding halt. They were constantly asking each other how many more bowls they needed and the 4 of us were standing right there after the line waiting. It took longer than expected, but wasn’t an insanely long wait.

I don’t write restaurant reviews normally, it was just such a weird vibe that I got that I felt like I needed to post about it. Based on the rating I saw here I expected a lot more.

This may just be a personal thing for me, but I’d lose the red onions in the pho, I enjoyed the pho but now all I’m tasting is red onion. Maybe soak them in water before adding to cut some of the...

The food was decent and fairly priced. However the 2 highschool staff that served our orders we're incredibly rude. There was no clear assistance and the cashier literally stopped taking my order to have a an unimportant conversation while my credit card was in my hand right in front of him for about 1 minute. I had to say something for him to pay attention. The food was somewhat spicy so we needed water. I asked where their water cups were and they told me to go to a wall. The other young employee gave me an condescending attitude and tone because I didn't know he meant the pillar. As I was about to get water and they took it away without saying anything to me. So I stood there waiting for them to fill it and they never did. I went to Starbucks instead to get water. Horrible service but...
