The wife, a friend of ours and I had lunch at Pastoral earlier today. We arrived just past one and walked into what was a fairly busy restaurant which was about 60%-70% full and were promptly seated. We were hungry and looked forward to our meal there.
The wife has celiac and was happy to see that they had gluten-free crusts available at a $2 surcharge which we happily went for. She ordered a gluten-free, pepperoni pizza ($17), our friend got the Blance one ($16) and I went with their Proscuitto one ($18). We also ordered a few beers and a cocktail for the wife.
Service was painfully slow. We waited at least 15 minutes for our drink orders to be placed and at least another 10-15 for our drinks to finally arrive. Luckily, by that point, our pizzas were nearly ready and arrived a few instants later.
The pizzas, gluten-free and regular, were all pretty tasty and we didn't have any soggy or burnt issues that other reviews have mentioned. However, at least in my case, the prosciutto was just three small pieces and while it was pretty good, it definitely wasn't even close to being worth $18. Maybe $14 on a good day, and especially for a so-called lunch menu.
Our bill for the three, single sized pizzas, the two beers and the cocktail topped $85+ which is pretty damn pricey for lunch. Had this been the best Naples-style pizza in town, then maybe that would have been okay but they have nothing on Posto (Somerville) or Gran Gusto (Cambridge) and again, like I said, this was the lunch hour were people want a quick, cheap and small meal, which definitely wasn't.
On the upside the decor is neat and the craft beer selection and cocktails pretty solid. Plus it's in Fort Point which is another plus, especially on a nice day like today where the windows were opened. If they were able to bring the prices down and improve the service, I'd totally give them...
Read moreWent there for my lunch break ordered my food and waited an hour and got no food... waiter apologized for the wait and blamed kitchen, they offered to comp our meal and pay for our next meal. Waited another 15 minutes and still no food at this point 3 of our party of 4 had to leave to attend a meeting so I offered to stick around for the pizza to bring back to the office for the other 3. Again waited another 10 minutes they came back with 4 $20 gift cards and 2 boxed slices of pizza. At this point I'm annoyed to the point where I didn't want to say anything anymore took what they gave me and walked away. The guys I went with swore by this place but this was my first visit and likely my last.
Response to owner: I went there Friday afternoon and I believe manager did come over... the gentleman offered promised out order would be right out and we told him that we had to be in a meeting and he assured us the pizzas would be out soon. he never came back over and 15 minutes passed by at this point 3 of our 4 left because they couldn't wait any longer and I offered to stay to grab the pizza to bring back to the office for them. I think the manager assumed we didn't want it anymore I waited another 10 minutes and still no pizza. in total the wait time was about an hour and 25 minutes and all we were...
Read moreI've walked by Pastoral a hundred times but forgot it was there until I went online in search of good pizza in the Seaport. After reading some of the reviews and going there I thought I'd write this. Everyone who works there that I encountered, from the person who greeted me to Katie, the bartender, were friendly and accommodating. I ordered a margherita pizza and caesar salad to go and a drink while I waited. The dinner came out in less than 10 minutes and I decided to eat the pizza at the bar while it was hot. The flavor of each ingredient stood out and was delicious. The reason for only 4 stars is that the dough was not completely cooked; it lacked the crunch on the bottom and the uncooked dough was apparent on the top when I took off the cheese. I am not the first person to make this particular comment online, which suggests that the chef and/or others in the kitchen are not hearing the message. They should. Delivering the pizza quickly is not nearly as important as delivering the pizza fully cooked. Halfway through my pizza Katie asked me if I liked the pizza; I said yes except the dough was not completely cooked. She said she would tell the kitchen. I'd be happy to return if the kitchen commits to properly cooking its...
