Update, August 2019: My husband and I returned to Boxaroo to try their newest room, the Storyteller's Secret. It is not widely advertised to the public, but fellow enthusiasts recommended it on our Facebook group and raved about it. We were pleased to see that all bookings are private and that the experience is designed for smaller groups (2-5) because often we find it is the opposite. We cannot possibly say enough positive things about this room. It is a must-do for anyone - newbies and escape enthusiasts alike. It shot to the top of both of our lists of over 40 games completed. The execution of the room is flawless, with many novel features (no pun intended). It was a highly active room, which is always much more satisfying than just standing there solving a puzzle printed on paper. I won't say too much for fear of spoiling this wonderful experience, all I will say is that it one of the most immersive, unique, and well executed rooms we have ever seen. The puzzles were engaging but not frustratingly complex and integrated seamlessly into the overall theme and story. I can't imagine a group not having a wonderful time in this room. Don't hesitate to check it out today! The staff and the owner are incredibly welcoming and obviously very passionate about what they do. We will be back soon with reinforcements to finish the final room here and will update this review with more details.
My husband and I just completed Boxaroo’s Magician’s Study. We consider ourselves escape room enthusiasts, having completed over 30 rooms in the past 3 years.
Pros: The best part of this room was the quality and variety of the puzzles, which all fit very cohesively into the theme. There were lots of great surprises and fun puzzles that we hadn't ever seen before. Robert and Kevin were also good Game Masters and rolled with a minor glitch valiantly. The room itself progressed very logically and we didn’t ever find ourselves really stumped.
Cons: Really the only feedback that we would give is for seasoned escapers: this is truly an entry level experience. We easily solved it as two (which is not necessarily a con for us, but may be if you’re headed here with a larger group.)
Overall - 5/5 would recommend that you give Boxaroo a try. We wished we had time to stay and try the Museum Conundrum, but that just gives us an excuse to head back to Boston in...
Read moreHaving done over 100 rooms around the country, I can say this definitely a fantastic operation from top to bottom that I can wholeheartedly recommend to enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
With our group of four, we played The Magician's Study and The Storyteller's Secret. Both rooms have a strong emphasis on narrative and theatricality, providing several WOW moments along the way. All the puzzles tied into the theme and narrative. The scenic was nearly impeccable and was overall very immersive. I appreciated that the entire experience was focused around a sense of fun and whimsy, which is a nice change from the deluge of serial killer dungeons, zombie apocalypse and prison themes offered elsewhere.
Magician's Study would be a great room for first timers or those relatively new to the world of escape rooms. While Storyteller provides something new for the more experienced (plus it is a default private booking, yay!)
Every staff member we interacted with was just wonderful and very accommodating. We seriously can't say enough great about this establishment and are already looking forward to returning for Conundrum Museum (and eagerly anticipating what they will come with for future rooms).
Since Magician and Conundrum are public bookings, highly recommend playing on an offbeat time (early, during the week) to get a better chance at having the room...
Read moreI've been to many escape rooms since I started doing them a couple years ago. My partner and I were in Boston and decided to give this one a try after seeing the reviews online. We were intrigued by storytellers secret and decided to try that one. Its different from others we've done in that you've got 75 minutes instead of 60 and the room wasn't billed as an escape room but more as a journey. Oh and what a journey it was. The room was one of the best designed ones I've ever seen. The set design, story, props, atmosphere, all of it was top notch. One of my favorite parts though was the incredibly unique way they devised for the game master to converse with us inside the room when we needed a hint, clue or just to advance the story. I won't spoil it but it was very innovative and memorable. The whole experience was fantastic. Once finished they gave us a printout of our room stats for how long it took us to complete tasks compared to others. They even had little pins available for purchase of each of the rooms which I thought was a nice touch. Overall I can't recommend this place enough. We liked it so much that we did the magicians study room just before our return flight home which was also quite good. If you're looking for a great escape room experience in Boston definitely give...
