This place is a sad reflection of the city of Buffalo (I mean city "proper," the surrounding towns are more exciting and vibrant, plus you have the benefit of not being a target for violent crime). Went to the "home show" here and wow, how rinky dink. Both the set up of vendors and the facility. No, no you don't need a NEW convention center that we most definitely CANNOT afford, because no major convention worth a damn is going to come to Buffalo to make it solvent. You'll see. They'll build it anyway at taxpayer expense on false future promises of attracting business, but it will never pan out. I'd love to be wrong, but sadly I know I'm not. We don't have both the population size NOR population type to attract major national conventions to the Buffalo area. It's the same issue why the Pegula's are talking about not building a "palace" of a new stadium if they're going to build one. Because they know our population base [and their awful product] can't support the cost. I disagree about the stadium. For one, we DON'T need it, the old one is structurally sound... but shoot, if you're going to build one anyways and stick ANY portion of it to the taxpayer, at least build a stadium that's worthy of doing! Do something right the first time, or don't bother doing it at all! And for goodness sake, I'll choke anyone who suggests anything other than a DOME!
Sorry, off on a tangent there, but it needed saying! This convention center should just stay put. It's the best we're going to get, it's already been paid for (I think), and it's the right size for what you can expect to occupy it. That saying, "build it and they will come" is definitely NOT TRUE.
Just paint, clean, refurnish, and try to get some more exciting things going on in there with what you have...
Read moreI came for the home show, I like immediately that the organizers had signs up that said "don't want to talk? scan the barcode for more info or to talk later". Every both had a barcode and I thought this was a great idea, unfortunately none of the vendors gave a care and all of them harass you at every booth to the point I just left I understand trying to sell your services but some people just want to LOOK and if we stop and inquire or look vaguely interested then approach us but having every single person at every booth "hi, how are you" fake conversation is exhausting. I had one company accost me for being not interested. Excuse me??
I will not come back to this event. It was like the old days at fair when the carnies would yell at and accost you. The fair put a stop to it because it's off-putting and unpleasant. I wouldn't do business with anyone here. They seemed shady, not genuine, desperate, and annoying.
Additionally, the event says there was food available, there is one giant bar when you come in, it has two built-in food areas upstairs. No other food vendors were onsite which was bizarre. There was one food truck but I believe it was...
Read moreThe convention was fairly easy to locate, and the room our group was in was clean, a good temperature, and the chairs were comfortable, (which is important when you’re sitting for 9 hours). My complaint is that the food options were outrageously-prices. $7 for a fruit cup and $3.50 for a simple cup of Chobani yogurt. I finally located vending machines with normal prices, only to find they would not accept money at all. (Neither bills nor coins). I walked tot he other side of the center to try the machines there and found that they were also set up not to accept any money. It seemed they wanted to force attendees to pay their crazy prices. A few snacks were offered in our conference, which was nice. However, the coffee was awful, and as someone on a gluten-free diet, there was nothing I could eat. They offered us bagels, cookies, and muffins. A few apples or bananas would have been very appreciated. There was no staff available to point attendees to the correct conference rooms or restrooms either. Overall, my conference was fantastic but the venue,...
