My personal opinion and honest review of thedinnerdetective.com
First and foremost, I would never waste a penny on the show and dinner I was able to go because I was a replacement for someone else who had gotten sick.
Upon arriving at the event, there was no valet parking no place close to park. I had to drop the other participants off. Go find parking and walk all the way back to the hotel and the reverse of that after the show…
Upon arriving, there were no signs or directions as to where to go for the dinner theater show eventually, we found the front desk and they were able to guide us up to the second floor where we were seated in a restaurant atmosphere with other people ordering and eating around us while we waited for dinner theater we were advised by a waitress that they would be down soon to be able to come and get us. At this point there were no instructions or any idea as to who would wear when why or how we can get something to drink etc. after about a 15-20 minute wait A nice woman came down and very loudly without any assistance of a megaphone or anything starts yelling that everyone is going to need to get up to the second floor now my mother and I are both disabled and they have everybody trying to walk up a spiral two floor staircase to even get to the show. Once we got up to the floor for where the show and dinner was supposed to be, we were put in a long line where we all had to take photos with the person we were with with fake guns and knives for the entertainment. Once we were all funneled into the conference room, we were greeted by large tables of people Instead of a dinner like atmosphere it was more like one giant group eating frenzy. We were all sat together with strangers. When we got to our table where we were assigned, all of the food was already out on the table with everybody, joking, laughing and having a good time, meanwhile, our appetizer mushrooms and salad we’re just sitting on the table having stuff knocked out into our plates. I wasn’t going to eat it. It was just plain gross. Then I went to take a sip of my water and it tasted like Clorox bleach. My mother, who is with me also tasted the same thing and would not drink the water. I said something a little bit too loud while talking to my mother and the whole table heard me and they agreed the water tasted like absolute chemicals in order to get a drink of any kind you had to wait in a line at a portable bar out in the hallway, which I had to stand in for about 15 minutes, just to get a Coca-Cola for my mother And I wanted a virgin and bloody Mary The portable bar did not have any more bloody Mary mix so they told me I’d have to go down two floors to the main bar in order to get one so I took the elevator went to the main bar to go get one instead of them calling for more supplies and when I got down there, waited in another line for about 10 minutes to try to get a bloody Mary mix for myself And they told me nope sorry we don’t have any more ingredients for that in the hotel. I said fantastic and took the now watered down Coca-Cola that I’ve been waiting with for almost a half an hour back up to my mother in the conference room luckily, the second time I went to go get her a drink it was only maybe a five or 10 minute wait. By the time I got back, the main course was already out on the table. The salmon was dry and flaky, and the chicken Cordon Bleu was cold in the center. Neither one of us could enjoy our food. They also had seated next to the giant windows that had curtains over them, which were still freezing cold because the temperature outside was so cold as well as they had us seated underneath the air conditioning vent, which they had on full blast and spent half of the time both my mother and I wearing our coats. By the time everything was all said and done the entertainment itself, wasn’t the greatest very hard to follow, and the actors didn’t seem like they even really wanted to be there and half of the time didn’t even read half of...
Read moreFun experience with entertaining actors. The biggest negative is the company can NOT handle dietary restrictions. *These tickets were a gift - before they were purchased, the purchaser contacted the company to ensure they could make meals dairy free for a milk protein allergy. *During the reservation process, I specified dietary restrictions. *At the dinner, I told the wait staff about the dietary restrictions.
The meal came with cheese covering the pasta, so an expensive dinner was only half edible (despite checking 3 times during the process that this could be done). No desert accommodation was made. As a minimum, they should at least be able to make the main course suitable for dietary restrictions. While we understand such a large event is more difficult to handle restrictions, we've gone to events for 100s of people where we've had special meals AND deserts provided to accommodate dietary restrictions.
Because of how many times we were told they could accommodate dietary restrictions and then they failed to do so, I would not recommend it to anyone with...
Read moreThis was a gift given to me which was awesome. We had so much fun. The main characters (the detectives) were the best, they were funny and kept us guessing. I loved how they got at least one or two people from each table involved as a suspect or just to find out what they knew or saw. Dinner was surprisingly fantastic. There was salad and a mushroom appetizer and then for dinner I had the salmon which was done perfect and very tasty. My husband had the roasted veggies which he said were also done just right and were still hot when placed in front of him. A chocolate mousse for dessert was devine. Alcoholic drinks were available to purchase for cash only. This was really a very fun and special "date night" that we loved, definitely want to do again and would...
