I was really looking forward to celebrating my birthday here with friends, especially since my husband and I have had great experiences with escape rooms in Orlando in the past. We booked the Jailbreak: Bangkok room for a 7pm slot with four people, which came to $144 total (about $36 per person).
When we arrived, we noticed a group of four teenage girls waiting as well. As we stood there, it became clear from the staff member’s comments that we were going to be grouped with them in the same room. This was never mentioned during the booking process. In our previous experiences, escape rooms have always been private unless stated otherwise, so this caught us off guard. We were told we needed to book a private room separately if we didn’t want to be grouped with strangers. It made the experience a bit awkward, especially given the age difference between our group (in our early-to-mid 20s) and the teens.
One of the main reasons we chose this particular room was because of the unique twist mentioned in the online description: "But there’s a twist – one of your teammates has secret information. Will they help you break out, or work against you?" Unfortunately, this element didn’t seem to be included in our experience at all. It was a big part of what intrigued us about the room in the first place, so it was disappointing that it didn’t play any role as far as we are aware. They had separated our group at the beginning and that is when we thought they were going to introduce that aspect.
As for the room itself, it felt quite basic. There was little to no immersive lighting or background sound to set the mood, and the props were minimal. The puzzles mostly revolved around finding keys and codes, without much variety or creativity.
Having done other escape rooms—such as Will to Escape in Orlando, which I highly recommend—the difference in quality was pretty noticeable. Considering the price here is only slightly lower, I expected a similar level of experience, but unfortunately, this one didn’t deliver.
I truly want to support small businesses and I understand how much work goes into creating experiences like these. That said, clearer communication about booking policies and delivering on the promises made in the room description would go a long way in improving customer satisfaction. With some updates and attention to detail, this location could become a much stronger option for...
Read moreIn no way do I take pleasure in leaving a sub-par review. The staff were very respectful and the owner was very nice. That being said, I’d like to be honest in my review, escape cocoa beach was the first escape rooms I’ve done. Jail break, black dahlia, etc. back then, those rooms compared to other escape rooms I’ve been too, even in Orlando. but I went back recently, things have changed, and not for the better. We won our escape room within 20 mins, this one I’ve never done before, this in itself isn’t a concern. But upon arrival we were informed that we would have to wait on another family, because they do “movie theater style”. With the 10 different companies I’ve participated in escape rooms with, I have never heard of “movie theater style”, now this wouldn’t be a problem, except Escape cocoa beach was one of those companies that didn’t do that before. This is bad, especially since more people means less to solve per player, or are needed for an individual puzzle, sometimes even no participation happens. This is not that we purposely exclude team members, but some people take longer to solve some things, and when someone gets the answer we all move forward, leaving others out who paid 30 bucks to be there and get involved. I felt horrible for the family with us, I tried to get them involved as much as possible, but my team kept finding the answers even though we tried to re-hide the clues for them to find, so they could have the satisfaction of at least finding something. And when I found a code I would ask them to input the code for me, to at least give them something to do, if not be able to solve things.
As for the room, it’s not terrible, but it wasn’t good. This isn’t a comparison to other escape rooms either, this is in comparison to your own escape rooms back in your first two years of operation. Some puzzles were broken. For the sake of the escape room and my teams enjoyment, I had to pretend that some things did not just come apart. And I urged the others to find the clues that would solve, something that was already opened.
This isn’t to shame Escape cocoa beach at all, this is an honest review from someone who genuinely enjoyed going here at one...
Read moreWould not recommend this place. We found a coupon at GatorNGolf for money off per person, which is why we chose to spend our money doing an escape room. We called and made a reservation and when we arrived, we were “not allowed to use the coupon” because we had booked over the phone and did not present the coupon at the time. I booked with the owner specifically and the employee when we got there called him, and he verified we could not use a coupon. Why even have a coupon out there then? They refused to just take the money off which is terrible customer service. It appears the owners do not care about their customers whatsoever which is why I would recommend doing something other than this. Very disappointed.
EDIT: After being called by one of the owners, I have bumped my one star review up to two out of kindness. I do understand the impact that reviews can have on a business, which is why I still stand by my honest opinion that customer service is lacking here, which is apparent by responses to other low star reviews which I should have read before booking. To clarify, my party had not paid for anything yet when we presented the previously mentioned coupon. To move on from the coupon ordeal, our experience in the actual escape room was mediocre. We did the rocket science astronaut one. I have been to just a couple others and almost all were more high tech for the same price, still being a small business, so in the regard it fell short for me. My group felt that the room was not explained very well seeing as no one else had done an escape room before, and had absolutely no idea what they were doing. We had to ask a lot of clarifying questions on objectives/goals and I did not feel that there was much backstory to the room to make it feel more realistic. On a positive note, the environment felt very clean. I think the room was challenging enough, but a good level of solvable. I will reiterate that this is my personal opinion that we are all entitled to. I would not choose to go here again but others could have a...
