Would NOT recommend!!! I am a small business supporter, so it pains me to write this. However, I’m hoping this review will also encourage some much needed training….
If you like your food extra, extra, campfire crispy, the kind of crispy where you don’t know what food you’re eating because it taste like bits of charred barbecue, then this is your cafe! Over cooked (burned) fried okra. Burned sausage links. Burned country fried steak, but let’s cover it in gravy and call it good! When I sent the breakfast plate back, because who likes to eat more charred food, the owner herself came to the table and asked why I didn’t eat the eggs if there was only something wrong with the country steak! My answer in short was because it was a country fried steak and eggs plate, and the steak was not edible!! Why would I eat half of my meal????? Bill came and she actually charged me for half of the plate…..owner’s justification was because she is a small business, and when people don’t eat food it cost her money. The issue was with the quality of the food. We did not send the basket of fried okra back because we didn’t want to waste food! We did not ask for more sausage to be made because that was wasting food! However, when an entire meal is charred, the main course of the meal, a line in the sand is drawn! A customer should not have to pay for a plate when the quality of food is not up to standard! It wasn’t until I threatened to dispute the entire bill with my credit card company, that the owner FINALLY did the right thing and took off the full charge of the burned country fried steak and eggs plate. Shame on this small business owner!!! More training needs to be done in the kitchen; not charging customers for poor food because the cost of poor food needs to be paid by someone!! Cafe was not busy at 9:30 am; yet a table of six had to ask for water and coffee refills. We were one of four tables in the whole establishment.
Like I said, this review makes me very sad to write because the restaurant itself was very cute and nicely decorated, but the quality of...
Read moreCute and chaotically charming. Old skool settings with old skool cooking. “Grandma” runs around and greets everyone with a big ‘ol’ smile and a ton of pride. Her shirt says “butt nuggets” and that refers to eggs. Haha. Prime rib Friday night seems to draw a crowd for the home cooking. The green beans are fresh and splashed with southern flair. I will definitely get that side again. The prime rib was good. It is peppered heavily on the crust so if you think pepper is hot, you have been warned. The horse radish, omg, hits hard if you breathe while tasting it. It is soooo good and it was entertaining to hear the gasps of those who also breathed while eating the horse radish around the restaurant. Coke house no Dr Pepper but it has a good mix. The onion straws are not exactly straws but more like nuggets, maybe? They are good, fresh, and hot. It’s definitely worth a visit but don’t expect cold, sterile glitz and glam of the big retailers. Close to cruise port. Oh and their posted breakfast deals are insanely...
Read moreMy father and I decided to try Joanne's because he was looking for a good prime rib for his 80th birthday.
The staff made us feel at home immediately, and you could tell it was a down-home type of place. I'd like to especially mention that I believe nearly every member of the staff came out to wish my father a happy birthday, including some of the cooking staff. This display of exceptional is deserving of mention.
We shared a basket of fried okra to start, which was excellent and fried perfectly.
My father of course had the prime rib, which was a thick cut of meat for the price point. He got fried onions as his side.
I had a brisket sandwich, which was very flavorful. I used the spicy BBQ sauce that was on offer, which added just the right amount of zing. The prize I had as a side were seasoned well.
Without prompting, the owner of the establishment brought out a warm brownie, and sing Happy Birthday for my father.
Needless to say, I am highly recommending this establishment. We...
