Bottom-line, up front: If you are looking for a gym with excellent, supportive coaching and classes filled with friendly, encouraging people, no need to look further.. You can find all of that here!
If you want more detail: A little background may be helpful to understand my review, so pardon my long-winded diatribe. I was first introduced to CrossFit San Diego in late 2010, when my wife and I lived out west. I was 47, weighed 310 lbs, and had a cardio motor that was good for about 30 seconds of effort. I joined on January 2, 2011, and was immediately embraced by my 6am classmates of 20-somethings and coaches. They were supportive, motivating, sticklers for proper form/mechanics... and once they saw my commitment, none of them hesitated to give me a verbal butt-kicking if they thought I wasn't giving it everything I had on that particular day - and I LOVED IT. I could find ways to exercise, but the challenge, the accountability, and the camaraderie made it for me. By the time the CrossFit Games came out in the spring of 2012, I was down to 228 lbs. and the fittest I had ever been - ever. I continued with CFSD for 2 more years until I broke my foot while on a fishing trip (ironically in Port Charlotte). As I was adapting workouts for my comeback, word came out that the gym had been sold, and the whole dynamic was changed. The new gym had good trainers, but they were heavily biased and segregated based on interest in participating in the Games at the Regional and beyond levels. Our tight 6am group dissolved, our trainers moved on (I hired one of them to come work for me in cybersecurity work), and I stopped going to the gym for awhile. I tried 2 or 3 other gyms, and while the coaching was good, the magic of my old 6am class couldn't be replicated, and I didn't want to deal with the cliques I encountered - so I put it all in the rear view mirror. Fast forward to fall 2023. I'm now right around the corner from 60. We had moved to Cape Coral in 2020, but hadn't been active or social with anyone but our neighbors due to health concerns for my wife. During a dentist appointment I overheard my dentist and one of his assistants talking about a thrusters workout, and my ears perked up. I found out about ENG through them, and filed it away for the right time. The right time was 3 weeks ago, and I reached out to Coach Dale.. and I couldn't be happier. The coaching has been EXCELLENT. The facilities are fantastic, and the overall attention to detail as it pertains to business operations and communications just blows everything else I've ever seen out of the water. But the best part is the people - the friendly, encouraging camaraderie I had missed for so long is here - and the classes are made up of folks ranging from 20s to 70s. I now look forward to getting up at 5:20 for my 6am class. I've taken classes at other times when my schedule required it, and found them equally good. I'm already feeling fitter/stronger, and my problematic back is virtually nonexistent. Every day is better.
I don't care what your age is, or what your limitations are.. if you want to feel better, fitter, and stronger (mentally and physically), just walk in the door and give yourself a chance to ask questions. It's not about what you can't do - it's what you can....

I love my ENG family. They all have changed my life and really care about helping me get better and better. Each coach has a special individual uniqueness, you want to take all of the classes to experience them all!💕 What I Love About The CrossFit ENG Nutrition Challenge ! I plan on continuing the tracking of meals planning, plate methods and sleep schedule. I now set an alarm to go to bed as well as get up at the same times daily, and plan on changing it to earlier by 30 minutes for a month until I get to midnight to sleep and up at 7a, naturally. So far, its an hiur earlier for both some the challenge started. I also plan to continue my crossfit journey and further my knowledge of the physical aspects that aging bodies need to keep strength up, prevent injury, and be the one who helps others and not need help themselves. This challenge for me has been more about a way of life to be more agile and get stronger rather than get in a bikini again. However, that would be great too! 😄. I am so grateful for ENG and difference its made in my life. I feel ALIVE again! 🙏💃
I have experienced my first month of crossfit and am in love with it. The classes allow all levels of ability to be the best one can be. All the instructors are awesome and encouraging and make me feel like a part of the team. I actually feel improved strength and mobility coming through my soreness each and every workout. I watched and admired crossfit for years whole at my old gym, to motivate me while doing cardio...now I'm IN it. All of the coaches make revisions to the workout for my injuries, and my present abilities, beginning my crossfit journey at age 59. After one month, I can already see and feel progress and strength building. I LOVE...
Read moreAs a mom of five with an awkward personality and a low social battery, I was completely new to the gym world. I had only heard of CrossFit vaguely and had no real knowledge about gym equipment, proper form, or how to approach workouts. So, when I started looking for a gym, I had a lot of specific needs. I'm happy to say this gym has exceeded my expectations in so many ways:
Every class has a coach, and they are fantastic. They make sure to pay attention to everyone, teach you proper form, and we do the workout together as a group, which makes it less intimidating. The gym has an app that shows class schedules, work out details, and allows you to track your progress. It’s so helpful to be able to go at my own pace and see how I’m improving. They offer the option to work with a nutritionist who can help with meal plans and more. She is also very nice and welcoming. The workouts are full-body, and whether you're a beginner like me or more experienced, you can feel the progress with every class. They cater to individual goals, so it’s motivating no matter your level. They even have kids’ classes, which is a huge bonus for busy parents! 6.You can go at whatever time is convenient for you.
Honestly, they’ve thought of everything to make it easy for anyone to get started— all you need to do is show up and put in the effort. I hope this review helps someone who feels a bit unsure, like I did. I’m so glad I chose CrossFit ENG, and the sense of community here is the...
